building a box for a single 2005 12" alpine type r and im already confused as hell

im going with what alpine tells me in the booklet and it says the dimensions are 18"X13.5"X16.5" i get that part, but then where does the vent go? is it just a hole on the side of the box or do i have to put a piece of wood leading to it?

and it says the vent lenght is 22 in................thats longer than the box itself, or am i just plain stupid?

and then what is the vent displacement? it says it should be .305 ft^3

im capable of building this box, even though it may not look like it i just need more clear directions

so any help would be awesome

or mabye i should just go with sealed?..............ive build a sealed one before and it just for daily driving
