1st attempt at kerf port..

99.9% sure you aren't supposed to use the plastic spacer with the new basket.

Same as if you reconed an old 4-spoke DD with the new 12-spoke basket.

I need to do something with my HD3 12". I think I might turn it into a 10". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, I didn't use them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif AQ email confirmed it, I just wanted to make sure either way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thanks for the help tho!

box looks sick, mad skillz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
the one in the car came out crappier, the one that's still on my porch the bend came out better. thanks for the complement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

fakken friday the 13th for real... pulled the shims out this morning and the corners on one break off... after I came home from work I managed to get the pieces out. Then, as I was gluing I was worried the glue was getting tacky/curing, so I thought it may not hold, I was right, I just got thru pulling the surround off one of the subs and gluing it down with gorilla glue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

the other I could only pull up a 4-5" section... I'm gonna get some 1hr epoxy I think and double around the edges of the spiders even tho they look to be sound. the surrounds don't have as much pressure on them imo and still came off when I was just pulling on it lightly the spiders are stiff and I really don't wanna find out those are botched too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

last time I used the epoxy it held up fine but I applied it with the tip that mixes it as it comes out so it didn't have ANY time to set before I poped the recones in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif I'm pissed and depressed with myself because I knew better but eh, that's what happens sometimes...

maybe it's just me, I never used a new basket before was I supposed to grind that one too? I've always used old baskets and I had to grind them to get the old surrounds off so never really thought of it before...

You should have ground the black powdercoating off the landings if they weren't already done (when I got mine from DD they were coated completely and I had to grind them to bare metal).

Hopefully it holds.

no ****.. the surround should hold now, I gorilla glued it down. but the spider is ify I thought of it after the fact. like I said I'm used to reconing my used subs never had a new basket to recone.. no wait, I take it back I reconed my neo subs with FI baskets and recones same 5 minute epoxy and they held... eh got more build pix up, just finished wiring up my batts in the back and took some better pix of the box that's in there. I designed the boxes before I had the batts after I got them I had to replan the layout thus they're standing now...

hm, I'll start where I left off this morning before work... removal of the plastic in the pole piece/forme...

then I figured all HAD to be good so I glued the dustcaps on... kind of a mistake but eh, **** happens...

I'm going by time here, so next I was stoked and went to take pix of the box in the car... to give a better idea of how it looked since I realized it didn't look very descriptive in the other pix.

can't really tell but they ARE under the window line before I realized I had no where to put batts, this is how I designed the boxes to be installed... with the second row up I still have more room from the port to trunk than the port is tall...

then, I realized my surrounds could be peeled right off so I went ahead and peeled it off where I could on the 1st one and ALL the way off on the second one... Clearly I was upset thus no pix but u can see the gorilla glue coming out from there.

anyone who comes tomorrow is welcome to look at them closer. and if I blow them or something I'll take the cones off so u can see what I mean and how I glued them down the second time.

this is the boxes after I reconfigured everything to somehow fit everything with nothing protruding into the second row of seats... needless to say the wife wasn't too happy

as it's basically a half assed wanna be wall now LOL she said "so it's basically a fukken wall now" I had to follow her into the house trying to explain how temporary it is LOL didn't help the situation much... as it just about touches the roof...

finished wiring the batts as their own power source independent of the vehicle, basically hooked them up but didn't connect a power and ground to the vehicle yet and starting trickle charging them again...

yeah, they just about hit the window line themselves...

you should have took the old backet removed the old cone/coil

grinded all the old parts that glue attached to down then used aetone to clean it then used some good 15min to 1h epoxy

the used one held fine they both actually did good and are still together, did a 148.1 on airforces new TL dash and 149@46hz with issues going on and the subs fading in and out. and the amps were gain matched in pairs at 44acv since I thought they'd do more when I turned the volume up, not thinking I matched them on the maxxlink (tone generator) direct to the amp, and my deck has to play media thru it then the maxxlink so later I decided to up the gains and matched them at 78.3v in pairs instead and it sounds louder on ear..

and I'm not having problems with the subs coming apart pretty sure it's over a 150 now after rematching the gains, just lazy to bust out my TL. next week I will as I'm probably going to be off all week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif 150 on music even possibly as it's hella loud now.. imo testing doesn't matter the 148 and 149 I did at a comp so it's more of a legit score //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif in 3 weeks there's another and I'm looking to get over the 150 hurdle. and I'm not really too worried that I can't do it lol.

eh, had another comp. I laid the boxes down and found out I didn't make the problems stop by running the gains higher LOL. OR doing the big 3, or running 0awg to my amps and using reducers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif we'll see where it goes next. gotta check voltage drops and I think I may get new subs or more subs... gonna get rid of these kerf boxes and do a conventional suv spl box with port in the middle of the box subs up close to lift gate..

x2 black powdercoated baskets and 5min epoxy will NOT hold together. Found that out on a DD recone last year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

oh did the recones with 5 minute epoxy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif we'll see if they even hold together last time they did but I used the tube that mixes on the way out, this time it was getting tacky already by the time I got the recones in. but they look really nice as point source mids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
