1998 Ford Taurus System

I plan on putting a complete system in my 98 Taurus. I know I need to get a dash kit but if I am replacing HU, speakers and putting in an amp do I need all the wiring harnesses that come with some din kits? If anybody has done this and pics I'd like to see it.

the current thing in your dashboard is not meat of the factory system. That is just a control unit. The brains for the factory radio is completely in the trunk, so you need to provide all new power to the aftermarket unit. It might be easier to just do it all up front. Then discard all the factory stuff and treat the car like it never had anything in it to begin with.

soooo make more work for the man???

- run all new speaker wire's ( to door's or back to the factory tuner). either way you have to make a run of wire back to the tuner....

- find 12v batt/ 12v acc.

when you can buy the dashkit.. ( witch is needed ) that comes with a wire harness. that takes 15-20 min topp's to install!!!

u turnd a 30 min install into a 1 hour install.....

I am merely suggesting since half of the car is apart, take the rest apart and DO IT RIGHT.... it is my creto.

He said he wants to do a full install, the door panels will be off, the sill plates will be out, what does it hurt to run the speaker wires into the door instead of making the mile long trip to the back and then to the speakers in a reduced gauge of wire?

unless he is running some 8's in the door there is no reson whatsoever to update the speaker wire....

he is going to have to take that " mile long trip" to the trunk anyways.... power and rca's.....

why disregard the wire harness that comes with the install kit, and pay more money for speaker wire...

when you can. run the harness that comes in the kit back to the tuner, run power, and rca's. throw some connectors on the factory door speaker wire's hook up the amo and be done....

ur motto is a good motto im not knocking it... but it's better to work smarter then harder..

and the result's will be EXACTLY THE SAME. but with less work.....

I guess it depends on if he is using deck power or amp power, I took it to mean 4 channel to the front and rear, in which case, you can induce clipping with insufficient wire gauge. But if it is just deck power, then I will agree with what you are saying.

I also admit that I am overboard and nitpicky..... sorry..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

yea. but i highly dought he will be running that mutch power!!!!!!

it's all good man.

i have a 98 mercury sable, gen 3 of the fords, just like you.... i just bought my dash kit from sonicelectronix.com came with all the wiring.. looks great too. im going to get it connected this weekend...and yes u need the all the wiring...

u need the antenna adapter, the wire to run to rear tuner, and the wireharness for the defrost switch....

Wow! Didn't mean to start such a heated debate. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif You guys have given me alot of great info. I want to do a complete system but I will do it in phases. I think I'm gonna start with the din adapter and harnesess. I want to use an amp but not right away. Thanks again guys.

Ok so far I have just decided to upgrade the front door speakers. I have the speakers but can't find a speaker wire adapter to use with the factory connector. I don't want to cut the factory speaker wires. Anybody know where I can get them besides crutchfield?
