1974 Ford Bronco - Need Help Designing a Sound System

I am getting ready to build a sound system for my Bronco. However, with the age of the vehicle comes several complications. First off, the dash has the original radio and one speaker slot, but I would like to keep the original radio in there because it looks great and I know quite a few people who have had their head units stolen from their vehicles while the top is off or even had people cut through their soft top to get to it. I'd rather avoid that if possible. My overall budget I would like to keep at $1,000 or less for the Head Unit, Speakers, Sub(s), and Amp. I honestly just don't see a point in spending more than that.

Here are my basic plans. Let me know what you guys think and if there are better options out there. I only have a general floor plan for the locations of everything but I have NO CLUE whatsoever about specific brands and models of head units, speakers, amps, subs, etc.

Head Unit - I'm going to install a lockable console between the front seats to install the head unit. I will be running my IPhone to it wirelessly for music so that I don't even have to open the stereo compartment at all. Good idea or bad? What are some great, affordable options for a head unit? It won't even be seen so I don't need anything ridiculous or flashy but just something that performs well and does what it is supposed to. And, what is the best accessory to buy for wireless transmission from the IPhone to the head unit?

Speakers -

1) I'm thinking about buying a Sound Bar to install on my Roll Cage that has 2x 6" Woofer Slots, 2x 2" Midrange Slots, and 2x 1" Tweeter Slots. It also has two interior lights which would be appreciated since my Bronco doesn't have any lights inside aside from the dash lights. haha Would this be a good option or should I get large Marine Tower Speakers to mount across the roll bar?

2) There is a custom windshield wiper motor cover (The wiper motor for the early Bronco is at the main top of the interior side of the windshield and visible) that has 2x 5.25" Speaker Slots and an IPod Mount. It's like $250 but it comes w/ 2x 5.25" Cerwin Vega Speakers but I'm not sure which specific model and if they make good speakers, anyways.

3) Possibly considering building a custom box to mount underneath the rear seat. I could fit 2-4 speakers in it, 2 speakers and a Sub, or two speakers and two subs.

4) The dash has a single 5.25" slot next to the stock radio that I can use to mount an extra speaker in.

Those are basically the only options I have come up with so far.

What brand and model of speakers would you guys recommend? I would rather not have speakers that are overly "bright" and harsh on the ears but ones that have great detail and clarity with more of a neutral/warm sound.

Subwoofer(s) - The largest console I have found for the center is 8 1/2" wide x 23 3/4" long x 13 1/2" tall. I'm considering mounting one Sub in that console if it will fit.

The specific console that I am thinking about buying is the Max Bilt "Command Center" from Bronco Graveyard. I tried to post it but it won't allow me to use l i n k s.

The other option for a Sub or two I'm looking at is included with the box that I want to mount under the rear seat. I could do 1 Sub in the Console and 1-2 in the rear box or just 2 in the rear box. I'm not sure how much of a difference 2-3 would make so hopefully you guys can advise me. I listen to mostly rock/metal so I don't need to shake the doors off with my awesome rap music bass. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Of course, I want a nice system but I'm just trying to let you know my priorities are sound quality with plenty of power instead of just absurdly unnecessary power with crappy quality.

What do you guys think the best location options are in this scenario and what brands/models of Subs would be the best?

Amp - I honestly have no clue here. I don't know anything about amps at all so I'll need you guys to hold my hand and walk me through this. haha The only mounting location I can think of is underneath the passenger seat but I am extremely open to suggestions. I don't know who makes nice amps or what type/power amp I need so hopefully you guys do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure I explained everything.

Thanks for the help!

I think I am just going to run the system to use an iPod/iPhone and skip the head unit altogether. I don't listen to the radio or cd's so I don't have a use for it.

Can anyone help me design the system, otherwise?

The BC Broncos Wiper Motor Cover I mentioned has a 100w amp pre-wired to the 5.25" speakers so it should be good to go. However, I need to find a way to connect it to the rest of the system.

For the Center Console, I would like to either install one LARGE Sub or two smaller Subs (whichever would be better) and an Amp underneath it but I would have to find a way to connect it to the others.

For behind me, I can either do the Sound Bar or two Marine Tower Speakers but I need to find a way to Amp them and then connect them to the front speakers and center console sub/amp.

Please tell me someone on here has some ingenious ideas on how to accomplish this. haha

Thanks for the help!
