Ok, so I filed my income taxes and I'm thinking about getting a 1911 w/ part of my tax return.

I want someone to help talk me into or out-of buying at 1911.

Currently, the only pistol I own is Springfield XDm40. I like this pistol a hell of alot...but HATE the trigger creep. Yea, yea...I know that sear fired polymer-frame pistols are notorious for trigger creep, but that creep just pisses me off. I guess I'm entirely too used to the crisp pull on my REM700 trigger @ ~3lbs. To tell the truth, I have been a rifle guy all my life. I'm a hunter.

I have a drop-in 9mm conversion barrel and main spring for my XDm40 and LOVE the 2-rounds from 1 gun/mag option that it offers. Especially since 9mm is far cheaper than .40S&W for plunking...but .40S&W as a nightstand gun offers plenty of knock down. I have over 4000rnds down the pipe of my XDm40 w/ the .40cal barrel and over 3000rnds down w/ the 9mm conversion, and I'm very accurate @ 30yrd my XDm. But I still HATE the trigger.

I KNOW that the 1911 trigger on a well built gun is like butter. I have shot 1911's from time to time. And I love the crisp feel of a quality 1911.

I would love to have a nice 1911. Dammit, I love shooting a 1911.

But here is my dilemma.

I recently purchased an Armalite AR15. Before this .223/5.56 Armalite, the only .223 I have owned was a Ruger Mini-14 cerca-1970's. I have killed alot of deer w/ my old Mini-14 at 200yds w/ the Mini's pencil barrel, it tends to throw lead like a sling shot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

For instance, I set up 4 red plastic cups at 360yrds and fired at them. W/ the Mini-14 I couldn't touch them...even after rechecking my zero at 100rds. BUT, w/ my new Armalite M4 platform w/ the HBAR barrel, I hit 3 cups in 4 shots. (10x scope in both cases, double checked ballistics and point of aim also)

BUT....again....I HATE THE 2-STAGE TRIGGER ON MY ARMALITE M4!!!!

To hell w/ this 2-stage trigger ARshit!!!! I'm about 60% sure the **** 2-stage trigger fuct me out of shooting 3-for-3 on the cups at 360yrs, hell...I was sandbagged in on the shooting bench.

So.

Gun guys. I ask you this...

Buy a quality 1911 (I'm currently looking at Kimber)

OR

Tweek and tune my Springfield XDm and Armalite M4 w/ trigger jobs and buy a few extra mags...and ammo (.233/5.56, .40S&W, and 9mm)?

Currently, I'm thinking Timney-Trigger for my AR. They claim a 3-4lbs smooth break, but the kit is $210.

Also, I use my XDm40 as a night-stand gun. But I tend to pull it (as it is my only pistol) out of service and go plunking ALOT (thus the reason I did the 9mm conversion).

If this post is TLDR...GFYS.

Thanks.

Do you think the trigger kits would satisfy you or do you really really just want a new gun?
I know one thing...I REALLY HATE THE 2-STAGE TRIGGER ON MY ARMALITE AR AND XDM.

I haven't done a trigger kit/tweak on either of these styles of firearms. But, if at conversion or tweak-job can bring them close to the smooth snap that I am used to on my BDL REM700 7mm-.08 or my Dad's A-bolt Browning .300 RemMag (both have a simple trigger polish-job w/ a beautiful snap that is not to light for safety but not to stiff)...I would be as happy as a pig in a shat-hole.

I already own 2 guns that I LIKE.

BUT

I'm not sure if I would rather buy a gun that I may fall in love with fully.....

Or

Build 2 guns I already own into guns that I love.

that is why I asked for others to chime in and help to guide me in one direction or another.

Cant beat a 1911! I carry a kimber ultra carry TLE and love it, wouldnt trade it for the world. and they have nice triggers from factory, (and theyre adjustable)

If you get a full size, you can get a .22 LR conversion and shoot it VERY cheap, tho you have to use hot loads to make it cycle well. my dad has the conversion and its a blast to shoot.

save your pennies and do the trigger jobs later.

i love 1911s they beautiful handguns i like kimber too the raptor and the super match are gorgeous and h&K are kool and sig sauer too other than that the rest i dont really like lol

i own 3 1911s,the Ruger, the Remington R1 and a Colt Govt.....They all shoot the same and have about the same trigger

Personally im not a fan of XD and prefer my Glock with its $25 3.5 connector ....

For a 1911 all I look at as a shopper is place of origin, make sure its made in the USA,I wont buy some

Philipino knock off....Honestly if your looking for a killer trigger you wont find it with a stock Kimber or any other 1911 out of the box

A trigger job which can range from 65 bucks up is the way to go IMO

kinda but $3k with life time warranty you cant beat that. thats a life time investment lol
lol 3k is a cheap one, They are great ******* firearms and worth every penny but a guy looking at a kimber is not going to end up with a night hawk.

I love my kimber, but some like to spit shells back into your face.

the trigger is a glass rod with very little take up at all. You will need to break it in right away with 500rounds to really get it shooting smooth though.

i just bought a citadel m1911a1fs. it is what some would call custom, beaver tail grip safety, ambi thumb safety, custom trigger and hammer, adjustable dovetail sights, wood checkered grips, flat mainspring trigger housing, 2 eight round mags, lock and keys. found a lot of great reviews on it and bought it at acadamy sports for $499. i already have a compact taurus .45, but i have always wanted a full size 1911. i like it.

the citadel has a limited lifetime warrenty
