Mr. Low End Monster!
hey guys, NICE fourm ive seen some sick installs on the site. so i figured this would be the perfect place to get opinions on an future install im going to do.

so here my questions what would u guys rather run for an Extreme Groundpounder/ something that will move alot of air?

4 18" Fi SSDs in an flatwall tuned for my liking

or

9 12" RE SE in an flatwall tuned for my liking?

Thanks guys!

I owned an 18" custom Sundown Nightshade...threw it in 7 cubes tuned to 27Hz...

Murdered the lows like nothing I've ever sat in before, straight groundpounder..18's move a SHIT load of air...and get low..

Now the 12's would probably do the same being their are 9 of them, but 18's own....nothing like someone walking up to you, and having the reaction of..."God ****....Four 18's????????" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Just my personal preference....if you want to move air and get low..buy the 18's..

lol exactly everyones heard of 10"s and 12"s everytime i tell people i gotz 18's its **** "**** i didnt know they made 18"s"

You're not going to get much port area with either setup in a flat wall.
not looking for tons of port area. im not an fan of Lots of port area for my own reasons. and why would i need bunch of port area for streetbeat?

Well you said you want to move air, and its a waste of subs if you don't have enough.
i thought smaller ports were actually bettfer for street bass. i know for an fact that smaller ports can allow for more Xmax vs using bigger ports. bigger the port the less the sub moves around tunning freqs. i also looked @ it like this.

Take an water hose for example notice that an smaller water hose will always have more force/pressure vs an larger one? i thought of that with ports. the faster the air moving/higher the velocity the farther/faster the air will move

maybe in wrong anyone want to chime in?

tons of cone area isnt always good i think. especially for an good sound system. larger port will make it PEAK more around tunning and get quiter above and below tunning unlike using smaller. and its been proven over and over again tons of port area isnt really important look @ frankie rio, steve meade, theres more

imagine it like this

a 12" sub in a 1 cubic foot sealed box.

moves in and out as far as it can "stretch" the air inside the box

wich is at 14.4 psi sea level atmospheric preassure, resting.

when the sub hits, it moves fowards, causing air preassure inside the box to drop.

letts say just for fun, sub has enough power to stretch the air to 12psi inside box.

now put same sub in a box that is 2 cubic foot.

same 14.4 psi inside box - sub can still stretch out the air when it moves out down to 12 psi.

the sub has more "throw" / x max / excursion..... to make this happen.

get it? - wait.... maby I dont get it, hell its late.... hahahaha.

so having small *** port = sub choked off

large port is more like "free air ish" so sub can move to its maxamum - with out damage

to the sub from over excursion is where tuning the box comes in to play.

o crap -

I also say go for the 18.

I just got a re sx 18 and im giving it 1K /1100 rms. it kills my little *** car.

not liking my box much, first go at it.

going to build it in to a wall now. it should be insane.
