187 15" or DC level 2 15"

They're a little different in the fact that the DC Level 2 has a 2.5" voice coil while the IA 187 has a 2" voice coil. I personally would rather go with the DC from what it looks like on paper.

Where did you get that from, just the voice coil difference? My 187 has been on almost 500 watts for almost 2 years now, and it's just as stiff now as it was when I got it, and it's ONLY a 2" coil. Coil length and layers mean a little more than what size coil. I'm sure that Nick took that into account when he built the 187's.

I like my 187, for the money, I don't think there's much out there better.

I have owned 24 15" lvl2s, had a little over 600 going to each daily and they took it just fine so i'm siding with DC on this, their very decently priced but i'm sure either will be a good choice. Just for me, DC if you plan on running more power later on, as stated the 2.5" coil > 2" in the long run imo.

Both solid choices. Both will take the power. I'd consider both low-power SQL. If you can hear both, try and decide then, otherwise just go with a company name //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What I like about the 2.5" coil vs the 2" coil is that the DC has more options if either of the two needed to be reconed. If both of the subs' coils had the same amount of layers and height, but coil width was the only difference, the 2.5" would handle more power. I'm sure David at PSI can build the DC Level 2 to handle a bit more power than the IA could ever take just because of the coil size difference. Also, the DC has a normal 12 spoke basket while the IA has a stamped basket. The DC has a tad bit more motor strength as well.

I'm not saying the IA 187 is bad.. In fact, I've heard that it's a GREAT budget sub. And I'm sure either choice would suit the OP just fine..I was just saying what I would PERSONALLY buy. If the OP doesn't ever plan on upgrading to more power, I'd get the IA 187 because it's probably a bit more efficient at that power level since it does have a 2" voice coil.

Point given.

MSRP on the Level 2 is 229.99, if AudioJunkies is correct. The MSRP on the 187 is 149. That 80 dollar difference at that MSRP point gives you the 2.5 coil and the basket. Keep in mind the 187 is an entry level driver. Compare it to the entry level from DC (Level 1) and it's no comparison.

And another thing, if you can kill the 2" coil in the 187, more power to you. Mine has been worked out for 2 years and it's still holding together quite well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
