thinking about building a pair of these anybody used any before?

did that first vid also have borla stingers? if not, the whole comparison is void. It is better for horsepower to have less length or bigger bore in the exhaust because it gains power due to less backpressure but also shifts your curve to a higher point in the power band and decreases torque at the lower points of your powerband. it is generally better to have longer header runners (the individual tubes from each exhaust port) that lead to a collector because it gives a chance for pressures to even out gradually before they meet. Unless analysis proves this 180 design to better equalize exhaust pressure in each runner, i dont see any benefit over a typical long tube. there are more bends in this design and that would increase backpressure at the heads.

no it's better to have the right length/pipe diameter. It has more midrange power then long tubes, the sound is what I want though the 1-2hp difference I could careless about. The exhaust on the first one I'm 90% sure are stingers as well.

Yeah i was wondering if they are stingers because if not, you wont get that sound regardless until you figure out what it is. does have a sort of european low displacement/high revving sound (I.E. ferrari v12). As i was saying though, the reason from more midrange kick is because of the backpressure that it provides, shifting the torque curve further up than stock, but not as far as LT's. also, some motors probably would not benefit from that design if they don't breathe enough for the lack of backpressure to matter. are you modding an s15 or what?

I wish, I still havn't been able to find the exact regulations and laws regarding bringing it in and making it street legal. They have a straight 4 so these headers wouldn't work anyway. I am waiting till summer when I can sell my mustang and buying another fbody or corvette, that is unless I can find the laws on s15's

yeah it isnt a bad design for mid/rear engine cars that have a very short exhaust. what mustang do you have now? and are you looking for LS based f-body or LT? C5 vette? you can get used C5s for 12-13k all day now. i would def get rid of the ls1 in it and build something stronger if money isnt a problem. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yeah that is exactly what i was going to mention. my buddy picked up a 98 c5 for cheap and built a 408 lq9 with lingenfelter heads, MS4 cam, some huge fast intake, etc. He still hasn't sprayed it but it is pretty nasty. honestly, it is hard and somewhat expensive to go very fast in earlier model mustangs. I have an 87 myself, which is easy to get fast, and it is no slouch but you could get enough from the mach to do some decent work on another car.

mine had an ms4, manual steering rack, full exhaust, some other little stuff. I think the best thing to get for them is a 9'' with 4.30 rear gears (if it's a 6speed)

Those look sick and sounds even better. To be honest I was gonna say some snotty *** ricer remark until I read that you have a mach and used to have ws6. Props... I cant wait to start moddin my car

The 2 down falls of 180degree headers are: fitment. You have to run some of the primaries either under the oil pan or more commonly around the back of the engine close or on top of the bell housing. This is problematic on Chevy (which I am most familar) because of the rear mounted distribuor.

Power delivery: They are very effienct in a particular and narrow part of the torque curve. They get used some in circle track because they custom build them so work at a specific rpm and the just hold the engine with a couple hundred RMP of that and all is well.

The sound you get from them is caused by evening out the exhaust pulses soit sounds like 2 four cylinder motors. Ferrari's sound like this because they use a crossplane crankshaft so the motor actually operates like this. This design isn't popular cause it stesses the crank and block more then the standard firing orders. Basicly you wide up with a high reving screaming V8 that doesn't last long.

If you aren't racing it or trying to eek out very last horsepower they are a pretty sweet sounding mod that will leave people scratching their heads.

Here is somebody else's design for the collectors on a 64 fairlane 427
