18" SX . . in regards to power handling

Sup peeps, I just installed a 18" RE SX powered off a RE 12.1

My question is, can the sub take all 1200 watts for daily driving? Or should i be easy on it? The thing is so **** loud i cant really tell if its distorting or not at high volumes, and the gains are set just over 3/4's of the way up.

ummm. . .dont know if you need any more information then that. The enclosure is 6.5 cu^ft slot ported, and the gains on the amp is just under 3/4's of the way up.

set it at it's rms rating, treat it like a baby though that sub can take a bit of abuse though i wouldn;t recommend it

The SX takes 1000 RMS, and i would reoommend setting at just that. Follow the Gain setting tutorial thats stickied and you'll be just fine.

thanx bro, just wanted to be certain

Yep, just set the gains gown so it's getting 1kwatt. Your gain shouldn't need to be anywhere near 3/4 unless you have a REALLY low preout voltage.
My Head Unit is a Pioneer AVIC N-2, the preouts are only 2 volts unfortuantely

I will try it using a DMM, any idea how many volts i am trying to acheive from the speaker input terminals?

The tutorial says 38.7 volts for a 1k watt amp @ 1.5 ohms. So should i be somewhere around 40-41volts?

I don't have a calc on this computer... sooo....

(watts desired) X (ohms) = Some number....

Then get the square root of that number. That's your voltage.
