$150 to spend

If you're open to a 12" sub the CDT Audio HD-1200CF is available for about $100. It's rated for 250W RMS and 500W peak and it works in a sealed box as small as 0.45 cubic feet.

oh really? why dont u pick this up and report back and be honest which sounds better. that is, if u can do that.Dayton Audio RSS315HO-44 12" Reference HO DVC Subwoofer

one time i beat this older guy at a video game, he said i cheated. i asked how? he said ive played this game since it came out, u have only played a year, u cant be better unless you cheat. i asked so every man thats older than Michael Jordan and has played most of their life, is better at basketball than he is?

u cant say such a broad statement. "the dcon delivers the sq better than any other driver in that price range" unless u have heard every driver in that price range...
Have you heard both to infer one over the other and make an honest answer?

Yeah...Some of my favorite amps are ones that actually add to the sound, or, rather, don't prohibit all the character from escaping. I feel like as time has gone on, amps have become more lifeless in their sound, as they lack that special something that quality old school amps had. These amps may not look as good on paper, but I wouldn't think twice about running them over new sq amps...
I have to agree with this statement.

Here is my example of the above...

Beautiful!!

And yes, that's a perfect example. Tube amps have very high THD, specs that SQ freaks would scoff at if they didn't know it was a tube amp. But you'd be hard pressed to hate the sound of a tube amp...Once you go tube, you don't go back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

True and neither has my bank account.

'Cone area is more efficient than stroke' makes no sense. Air displacement = cone area * stroke. Both factors are of equal value in that equation.
If you mean you get more output out of a 15" sub than you do an 8", given the same input power, that's true. It takes more power to increase excursion, but not cone diameter, right? But the sacrifice made by the larger sub over the smaller one is enclosure size. And how do you increase the 8's efficiency to increase its excursion (stroke) while maintaining the same input power? Increase enclosure size. Cone area is not the dominating factor you are suggesting it is.
lol, cone area is not the dominating factor in efficiency, Q parameters are, a high Qes 21 is far less efficient than a Low Qes 12. Efficiency (reference efficiency, or "No") will show which sub uses the power more efficiently as well so sensitivity is a decent place to begin looking to indicate a subs output capability, but no one remembers to factor in actual power the sub is turning into sound. Excursion is only useful if the BL remains linear, and if the Bl/MMs isn't idea linear BL doesn't translate into output as thought by most. A subs displacement (area x stroke) is a useless figure if looked at outside linear BL, as soon as the cone begins to loose force, the air the sub is displacing isn't increased effectively beyond linear BL unless in a sealed box, sealed cabin situation where no air can be lost.
