15" SE Sealed vs. 12" SE Ported

I have about 2.25 cu.ft. of room in my trunk for a sub. I want to use some for an amp rack, and I would like to have some storage left. Yes, I'm using my spare tire well. Tuning the 12" to 32hz if thats the route I decide to go.

Well the question is, which would you prefer? I know this is cleche, but still. Which one would hit lower? Cleaner? Louder? Overall preference?

se's = sealed... i would go with the 15 sealed

I think it should depend on what type of sound you perfer.

If you like ported boxes and the way they sound, go with the 12.

If you perfer the sound of a sealed setup, go with the 15.

There shouldn't be a big difference in SPL of the two, so just go with the setup that will give you the sound you're looking for.

Same response as the 12. Enclosure will dictate response though.

I'm mainly looking for accuracy - tonal and rythmical. Thus I'm leaning towards the 15" sealed...

Sealed will have a flatter frequency response which is usually considered to be better SQ. For that reason I'd probably go that route in your case. The nice thing is that if you later decide that you want it louder, you can find room and port the 15.

to be honest.

ive had a SE10, i tried it in sealed and ported, and imo - it sounded better in ported and got lots louder.

im not saying it was optimal boxes, because it prolly wasnt. but thats just one persons expierence.

imo- they come alive ported.

A 12" ported and a 15" sealed should have similar output. I'd still take the 15" sealed though.

I have a SE10 on it's way and I'm going ported so I'd do the SE12 ported....2cf tuned to 28Hz (if it was my SE12...I was originally gonna get the 12 but 10 fits easier in my car)
