ive been reading alot of posts lately and i always thought ported boxes needed less power to make a sub louder at lower freq. and sealed boxes take more power and are better for punchy bass. is this pretty much true because ive been seeing people say sealed take less power and hit lower frequencies. I have a 15" L7 powered by a kx550.2 (sheet said just over 700w) and i am content with the sound and i dont plan on upgrading the amp(i was using a kx350.2 i used on my cvr and was amazed how loud it was for a smaller amp ). Its in a homemade ported box that came with the sub and is falling apart, so i need a new box asap i listed to pretty much every thing but i have a playlist on the xbox with all heavy low bass songs that i listen to when i want to be really loud. I wanted your guys expert opinions on which way to go.
I was planning on going with this one since i wouldnt be able to build a ported box(Free shipping too):http://www.mobilesoundworks.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=4%5F0%2Dmsw%2D115%2Dkicker
Space isnt an issue because i dont use my trunk for anything but the system and its a big trunk, the box i have now is bigger than the one above.
Or should i go sealed and what would be the best size for lower bass? i could build a really solid sealed box myself. i am more interested in overall better sound than cost of buying compared to building.
Thanks in advance for any help or input. i thought this was worth asking since i am not planning on running it at full 1000w potential.
