15" AA Arsenal vs. 15" SI Mag

I know... another vs. thread... Yeah, I know, the Mag is better, but is it worth 2x the money? I really, really want a Mag, but man I'm having trouble justifying parting with $500 and I doubt I'll find one used. I'm gonna be selling my 12L7s and hopefully the box too, so that'll offset the cost quite a bit. But, if I go with an Arsenal, I could probably walk away with money for a tank of gas in my pocket.

I'm looking for SQL. The L7s are plenty loud, they really have a lot of SPL I'm not taking advantage of. I want something that has more SQ, but can still get loud when I want it.

Does anyone have experience with both? I've heard Nick Lemon's dual 12" setup, but I've never heard an Arsenal setup. I've heard the Assassin, but not the Arsenal.

My main concern with the Arsenal is that it looks to be the same sub as the 10" and the 12", just with a 15" cone. It looks to have the same VC as the 10" and the 12" and it has the same RMS rating. That leads me to believe that it's the same sub. I know the 15" Mag is specifically designed and is completely different than the 12".

Oh, I have 2000wrms @ 1 ohm, 1300wrms @ 2 ohms to throw at it. Is this too much for the Arsenal to handle. Either would be in a sealed enclosure built to specs. No, I'm not gonna port.

Thoughts, opinions, comments, and emotional outbursts...

oh well... idk bout the mag but i had my 15" in a sealed box (2.3cu.ft) with 2.5lbs of polyfill, it hits u pretty well in the 40-50hz region, transient response was good, sounded crisp, only thing is that it was bottoming out easily on the low notes(30hz and below)... but i think that was cuz of the cheap *** sealed box (3/4mdf all around, no brace, first box..lol)

maybe someone will elaborate more !!!

according to the great 12 challenge, the q almost kept up with the mag in sq and owned it almost across the board in spl.... its not much more than the arsenel, which from what i understand isnt in the same league...

Fi Audio Q12

The Fi wasn't as punchy as the Aura or Rainbows with fast kickdrums, but it wasn't sloppy either. Unlike the RL-p, it had much better low end extension, and you could tell it was really reaching down into those low notes to fill out the music. For anyone that thinks the Q and the Mag D2 are the same driver, you obviously haven't listened to both of them side by side The Q is a good driver, don't get me wrong - but the Mag simply brings more of the music out. The price differential might have something to do with it, though.

that's jimj's sq review for the q. considering its ****ed near half the price and louder, it left no questions in my mind when i ordered mine. maybe i ought to hold out until i hear em though... but considering you basically said the rl-p's sq sucked, and i thought my 12's sounded pretty ****ed good ported and sealed, i doubt i'll be disappointed.

Thanks for that copy and past GTA. Hmmm... punchiness is important to me. I listen to quite a bit of music with kick drums and quick, punchy bass lines. Since there's probably no way for me to personally here the Q, I'll have to go on personal reviews and paper performance.

I'm thinking of single 15" Q (maybe the 18") for my next sub when I get a new car. Anyone have a single 15" Q ported? I'd like to know how well it'd do against my two Assassin 8"s (on the same amp, so it'd be getting right around 1000w).

So, are all the Arsenals the same sub with just a different basket and cone? Looks to me that they are...

I have a hard time believing that a motor, VC, and magnet designed to power a 10-12" sub can power a 15" cone with the same efficiency and response...

yeah, actualy most lines that have 10, 12, and 15's use the same parts. hell i think the q 10 and the 18 are mechanically the same, other than the moving mass being higher from the bigger cone.

how far is salisbury from hagerstown? i'm only about 10-15 minutes from hagerstown, and ought to have my 15's installed next week.
