13W6 vs FI Q

YOU DONT NEED A NEW AMP:D

700 watts would be fine for a Q, you dont necessarily need to reach the thermal limits of the driver to reach the mechanical limits...you'll just have to compensate for it in other ways (such as a larger box)

Tempest has a w6 boner fyi
Yeah, I'm the one with the boner

1.total project cost is cheaper

2.Fits his amp perfectly, 700 watts WILL push a w6 to it's limits in about any box

3.Minor mod of increasing his cutout

VS.

1. More expensive, (he'll want to get a new amp, whomever asked me why it's cheaper needs to read instead of blindly firing)

2. Less cone area

All things considered I see NO reason to switch to a FI, except for the fact is popular right now. He could have picked almost ANY other sub on the market vs

W6, since many would have not suited his current setup, but he chose a FI, since it's popular right now. I have no problem accepting that FIvs subX, FI will win most of the time. However, this isn't high school, I'd rather give MY opinions based on something other than popularity. I've listened to W6's alot, they are NICE! I've never heard a FI, but I doubt it sounds much better or gets that much louder, especially in a 15 vs 12. (13's have a SD) How's this, next time someone asks what sub theys should get, I'll forget ease of installation, price, overall system goals, current equipment and simply pick on popularity, maybe that'll make you happy?

Can anyone here honestly say they've heard both in the same car, one after another, if not comparing is going to be hard. How many people that say FI in all these threads have head all the subs involved, if even JUST the FI. Sorry I don't have cash to blow everytime something new is popular, my bad... At least I have SOME reference to talk, biased, maybe, who isn't. At least I'm keeping all his goals in mind, I'm just saying that I can personally attest that if he liked his kappas the W6 will be the same but better. He's not even comparing the same sizes, 30% more cone area on the W6, and a much better chance to reach X-max. W6's do sound good if installed properly (fi's probably do too, but that's NOT the issue). Cost less in his case, and is easier to install (I'd rather make a new cutout than changeout amps, especially when you have to sell the old one off)

Being questioned every post because I'm NOT blindly following bandwagons and recommending them in EVERY case, including those where his needs are better suited elsewhere. Heck, honestly, if I had to put any sub in his ride, I'd try an RL-P. Fits power, likes ported boxes, and doesn't cost much. But he still can't go wrong with the FI or the W6, the FI will just be more involved, with more tradeoffs.

I just dont like how u keep trying to say the W6 would be better because it costs less total. U dont know if the FI Q's would sound better or even louder, he can keep the same amp and push it with 700 rms and it can still get plenty loud also with less chances of damaging the sub because it still has a good 300rms clearence, as to if he used it for the W6 he would be giving it the max rms recommende. Than plus the fact that if he gets a more powerful amp it may come useful if he decides to ever swap for another sub, or pick up a 2nd one. I know I havnt heard the W6 and FI Q in a comaprison in the same car in the same setup, thats why I am not trying to push him toward one option just cuse its cheaper.

I'd rather overpower a sub than underpower one. The W6 will probably get louder it's more effecient with more cone area and his amp will push it to it's limits The Q won't be being fully pushed, but the amp might be. If he's not stupid with his gains he'll get max output out of his sub, without stressing his amp at all with the W6. With his current amp, he'll probably never see full potential from the Q, without clipping that amp alot. He's got headroom by 40% or so, not a huge deal, IMO. Usually this forum praises headroom, for good reason.

i missed the thread where reviewed them both side by side.... or at all. can you please link me?

i agree .

You could EASILY reach the Q's mechanical limits if you used the right enclosure with 700 watts...you dont need RMS to reach maximum excursion.

I dont see why you think you need a new amp...700 watts would be FINE for the Q

and im almost positive the Q would be louder, it has much more displacement (why dont you get a 15" Q if you're compared it to a 13.5" W6?) and its all dependent on the enclosure
