13W6 vs FI Q

Hello all,

I need a bit of advice. I have an Infinity Kappa perfect DVQ in a vented 2.2 (net) enclosure tuned to 28 Htz. I love the sq of it, and it gets plenty loud for sane individuals (I have 700 RMS going to it) but I find myself wanting a bit more. I figure my two options are to enlarge the hole and throw a 13W6 in there for more cone area, or put a 12 inch FI Q in there and get a new 1000-1200 watt amp. 700 watts is I think enough for the W6, but probably not enough to utilize the Q fully. I doubt there will be a significant gain (if any at all) from just dropping a Fi Q in there without any additional power. Costs are as follows: the 13W6 would be cheaper, assuming my amp pushes it ok.

400 13W6 shipped from Ebay

260 FI Q

300 Replacement amp ebay

560 total

Be a rebel, get an FI

Cuz I'm sure people around you have seen / heard JL, show them something new.

Or get a mag? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the Q has an rms of 1000 I think, but I think you would hear a difference w/ the Q with the same power. I hear a lot of good things about FI //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ohh god, I didn't choose the forum boner, let's all flame me! The W6 better fits his needs in this case and has proven to be one of the better subs on the market, which takes nothing away from the FI. It's more than capable of outdoing his old sub, while maintaining high SQ (common SQ sub), costs less, and fits his amp better, but dear god, it's not the boner, my bad:rolleyes:

I'd personally go with the Fi (as big as you can fit in your ride) and just make a larger than recommended box to compensate for the lack of power...

regardless doubling the power only yields 3dB...going from 700-1000 you'd only see a 1.3dB gain (nothing you'd ever notice)

I dont know how you can say the w6 costs less than a Q? The Q is way cheaper
I dont think you read the post entirely. I am speaking of total project cost.

I dont feel like I will need a new amp with the 13W6.

I do think I will need a new amp if I get a FI Q
