biggest problem for me is the size of box, but want the best sound possible.

when you say power do you mean loudness? what is the ported box tuned too? most likely you will gain sq sealed and loose spl

You need it to be ported to have the most output. Sealed will be less boomy but at a cost of a bit of volume.

Loudness.... probably noticeable if tested side by side.
personally i like sealed enclosures but if you are looking for loudness and to be able to out fart everybody else, then you'll want to go ported
You want a smaller enclosure ? Want to know what the smaller enclosure will sound like ? Tell you what I would do. Takes some bricks or pieces of lumber. Pretty much anything dense to take up airspace in the enclosure. Keep track of the volume your adding ( subtract of internal volume )removing while doing this. Plug your port temporarily and add some of the bricks or whatever. See how it sounds to your ears in a now smaller ( added the bricks ) sealed ( plugged the port ) enclosure. Then you can answer your own question. If you like the sound of the smaller sealed enclosure.
