it more or less says it hasn't been 'cool' for a long time, and hasn't actually been relevant for longer
i understand it works to get past the swear-filter, and things like calling people noobz, etc. is always a good chuckle, but it's adequate to swap a l3tter or two, lately it's been taking me hours to decypher a few members posts, esp. when i'm sitting there looking at it, and can't figure out what it says //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
Apparently it was created in the late 80's, when people communicated online on usenet, sorta like these forums, and people would type in code, so that innocent bystanders wouldn't be keen to, or bothered by hacker chit chat on the pages, and also so that 'n00bz' (in the true essence, hacker fanboys, wannabes) and moderators/ authorities couldn't search or censor the posts with word sensors, or just plain text-searching. AND, at one point it was kept to a minimum, which is all you really need here, by replacing one le77er here or th3re, but to keep moderators from finding more recent posts, and keep them one step behind, it started developing into the insane crap you see up there in my first post ^^^.
Now that you can mask your true ip adress, encrypt your connection, and the more prevelant use of irc by hacker groups rather than usenet or forums, real hackers don't even use that anymore, and the last useage was kids playing oldschool online games like doom2, and quake in the mid-90's, trying to sound cool, as in "whoa, i better not blow this dude up with my bfg9000, i think he's an 137 h4x0r!!1!!1!!eleven!!!!!1!11!!!one!"
But even that was 10 years ago, now it's just hard to read and confusing.
