12W6V2's in ported box

hi guys! I wanted to find out how you guys feel about 2 12w6v2's in a ported box tunned at 40hz.

I am running both of them with their own 500/1 and everything is configured to what JL's website recomends. (from cales to voltage output) but so far i had them installed in a seal box but have being considering putting them in a ported box from SubZone.

Anyhow any help is appreciated!

Why on Earth would you take one of the finest SQ drivers on the market and throw it in a high-tuned enclosure?

Tune much lower if you're going ported...around 28-30Hz.

yeah thats what i was thinking......... right now they are installed on a dual sealed enclosure with 1.25ft per chaimber. should i stick with sealed or should i go ported? i do have to be honest......i listen to more hip hop/ old school rap then anything else.

i was also reading that tunning the box to at aound 35 to 38 hz would be ideal but again i have never listened to the 12w6v2's in a ported box.

I do however have read alot here that you guys prefer ported...Is this the ideal way to go?

Ported is more efficient, and will give you a higher overall SPL than sealed. However, if tuned too high, it tends to get "peaky" and will sound "one-noted" or sloppy.

I'd say a ported box, tuned to around 32 or 35Hz, would be ideal for you.

Yea dude go ahead and port that box it will hit louder and deeper. my cousin prety much has the same setup he had the jl wedge box for the jl w6v2 and decided to go ported and made a big difference. 40hz is a bit big. defianetley go ported if u have the room

one more question and promisse to go away.

do i need to stuff the ported box?

JL recomends a 1.50ft when ported but what if i go 1.4 instead?

will this make a difference? will i be exposing the woofers to too much power in a smaller ported box?

also since i have 500/1 running them can i compensate the tunning via Q setting?

sorry about so many questions just want to make sure my system is configured correctly.

Follow JL's recommendations on the box.

You shouldn't have to use any polyfill.
