12w6v2 amp

b/c it can handle more than it says does that mean u should power it?
i call that overkill on this sub....

when i had my 12w6v2 i gave it 750 watts which was okay but really it wasn't necessary
I think he's saying that overall the amp is just built better, not just more powerful.

wait so you dont think this will be a good setup...cause i dont want to spend this much on a sub then blow it out or have it not last long at all. So if you dont think this will work can you try to think of an amp that will....for about $250

actually im kinda torn....what would be better the MTX801D or the Xeon 600.1? and why? If im not planning on upgrading because i will worry about that later if i want to. So with that one sub which would be better?

in context, with regards to which amp to purchase, distortion would play a considerable role in driver damage. if you intend to drive a sub to where it sounds loud enough to you with an amplifier that is inadequate, the result will be a clipping of the signal, subsequent distortion, and consequent damage to your driver.

overheating is a direct result of distortion/clipping.

also, i agree, you should never drive a sub past its limits. however, i have never heard of this happening without distortion. unfortunately you have to have a couple of subs fail before you associate the sound with distortion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .

sorry. armyrob, i am not well versed in either of those amps. i was only speaking to the point of adequate power to your drivers. i am an aggressive listener, and i enjoy music without having to crank it up to 31 in order to gain the full effect. definately find out if the specs on these amps are accurate, i.e., thd, rms, s/n.

i am no longer a fan of class d amps, but i had the fosgate 501bd and it absolutely hammered my 3jlw3's without effort. the "birth paper" stated it actually delivered over 600 watts. so, again, i just don't have any experience with the two previously stated amps.
