12' w7 or 12' w6

1.) SPL is Sound Pressure Level. The more SPL, the "louder" it is.
2.) Because of the power handling and excusion capability, (and this example is very general and in theory) a single 12W7 given 1000w should or come very close to matching the out put of two 12w6 fed the same amount of power, provided both setups are in the same type enclosure.

Similar circumstances also dictate why a single 13W6v2 equals the out put of 2 12W3v's. The added area and power handling, linear excursion...things start to add up in a hurry.

3.) By many accounts from both users here and other forums and from magazine reviews, when pitting a W7 setup vs a W6 setup in an even matchup (I.E same power, 1 W7 vs 2 W6's, in the same type enclosure), most have said the SPL or loudness was very even, but that the W6 performed better in the sound reproduction department. Basically, the W6 was more musical, sounded better. This may be due to the W6's W cone being slightly different from the W7's W cone (look at both cross sections and you'll see what I'm talking about) or a bunch of different reasons. But I'm getting off topic a bit.

4.) Bottom line, if you can, get a listen for yourself and make the call. I have a single 13W6 on a 500/1, custom ported to JL specs, and not only sounds phenominal...but given my power level and just one sub...it gets pretty loud (for me.) I've had more than a few people not believe I oly have 500W and one sub until I popped the trunk.

Hope this was able to help some.
Your install/setup is amazing

Is the sub box sealed off from the cabin?

i have heard both sealed and ported but never heard ether with w6's i know they make prefab boxes that have a slot port that comes with an insert to be sealed or ported

Thank you. Means alot, really.

No it's not. It only looks that way. Really gotta credit Tom Mangs for doing it so sweet. There is a slight gap above the "wall" panel. The gap can be seen if you duck down and look up towards the rear deck.

Tom made a small "awning" of sorts to hang down slightly from the rear of the rear deck in order to hide the 20" LED bar shinning down on the amps. I wanted a Halo type effect and didn't want the actual bars visible. So he made the "Awning" so it would also prevent the gap from being seen. Plus the gap is minimal.

To further enhance plenty of bass getting into the car the rear deck speakers were removed and the holes used as ports into the car. I was going with 4 coaxials anyways, and accoutically they would sound better coming low from the door locations. So the rear ones were not going be replaced or used, so we just took them out to let more bottom in.

be careful with prefab boxes....I know JL makes some good ones
Yeah if you get a prefab, get a package deal from JL with the sub already in it. I don't think JL makes a dual 12W6 ported enclosure, so that would have to be custom. In that case, get the specs from JL and get a good installer to make it.

is your car dynamated?
Oh yeah. Every door, the entire door, and trunk lid. Hind sight is 20/20 and I should have had the whole trunk floor and trunk walls done too. When playing stuff like Bass Mechanics or Woofer bass tests at 75-80% volume the sides of the trunk and rear quarters have quite a bit of rattle. The lid rattles some too, but it's dynamated so nothing I can do there.

Oh and it's Dynamat Xtreme

did you have a chance to listen b4 going with the dynamat xtreme?

the reason I ask is I have my 12w7 here, with BJ ab to start my box and my bulk pack of xtreme is on the way

I did not listen. I went with Xtreme because it was the recommendation of my close friend and sales rep that coordinated this and every other install I've done going back ten years, John (JC) Carrithers at Audio Advisors.

In short, when I was exploring the different dynamats, he said :We only stock and deal with Xtreme because Dynamat's other stuff is junk compared to it."

I said "uh, ok then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif "

P.S. I also went with the DynaZorb pads behind my coaxials. This was not part of the orignal plan and when I learned about them I brought them up to him and asked his opinion, wheather he had heard speakers with them. He said he had and there was a noticable difference. So I went with them, and he was right. Recalling my memory of every other speaker install I had had without them, my C5's (in addition to being a bad *** speaker themselves) sound really, really good. Very clear and vibrant. I can't pick up any distortion, at any volume level.
