12" L7 smoking

I just got a new L7 and put it in a ported box. I hooked it up to my friends Rockford Fosgate 1500BD with the gain cut down really low. We played the sub for a couple minutes and after a while thin white smoke started to come out. I took the sub out and it just smelled a little funny. So I redid the wires and played it again, and it continued to play as normal. The sub did seem kind of quite though, can anyone help me with this?

Sounds like its blown, or in the process. Thats wut my pyles of shit did the last time, Started smokin, then they seemed fine, but more quite, and then they totally stopped working and that was it

I've heard people say that happens the first time you get some drivers warm. It may be fine. Wait and see or put a meter on the VC and check em out.

The guy that did the box put the negatives and the positives backwards. I redid them and the sub sounds fine now. No smoking at all or anything. It also looks fine, the only thing that was even remotely warm was the magnet. Do you all still believe it could be the voice coils burning?

u damaged them bad if its not blown and it was smoking..

Honestly I didn't even notice the smoke at first, like we were just giving it a light work out. The smoke was very thin white smoke which contrasted my black carpet, which had a light smell. Is there any way to know if my VC's are blown or not.

check them with a DMM, if he had the coils wired out of phase it shouldnt have been moving at all, or just a TINY TINY almost unnoticable bit.

I got this from the kicker website. It says that if I accidently wired the subwoofers out of polarity than a huge decrease in volume woudl occur. Also it is said that they will just get hot.

If ya just got them check out the Warrant on them? Did you get a warranty or did you buy them off Ebay or somethin'? If not Yeah sounds like you might of damaged them pretty bad. But hey if there workin' fine now then go for it...But if you had a warranty on them I would just send them back and get a new one
