I purchased two of these Infinity woofers, as they were inexpensive ($90 each) and still looked like some high quality subs. Infinity recomends 1.25 ft^3 sealed w/ a little poly fill for this sub, however I didn't have a box for two subs of this size, but I did have one thats about 1.45 ft^3 per sub. As the box is a little big I didn't add the polyfill.
I should note that this sub will work well in sealed, as well as vented and bandpass enclosures. I am currently constructing a 4.10 ft^3 vented box for these woofers.
I am powering these subs w/ a Power Acoustik LT980/2 2-channel amp.
This amp will put out 280 watts RMS per channel into a 2ohm load.
I wired each sub in parallel to achieve a 2ohm load and get the most out of my amp. The subs are rated to handle 300 watt rms so they are close to being pushed to full power.
I have been playing them very hard in this sealed box for about 5 months so they are well broken in. Even though the sealed box is a good portion larger than recommended, the bass is pretty tight and clean, and I can hit some serious LOWS. Like steering wheel shaking madly LOWS. Anyway, In the proper sealed box, I'm sure these subs would have awesome SQ. Its already pretty good in the box I used. However I noticed just recently, after many months of hard playing, a little lead slap. I dont care too much cause I'm more of an SPL guy anyway. They hit an honest 128.0 dB in my sealed box. These are tough subs, they do have rubber surrounds which in my opinion is a big deal, foam just doesn't last.
Anyway, it is a good all around sub, and if you like loud bass, I can set off car alarms, I have been pulled over by cops who heard it "blocks away," and it shakes my trunk so violently I have to replace my licence plate light frequently. But I do know what good clean bass sounds like, and someone looking for a mid-level SQ sub should definitely check out the Infinity Reference 1232w.
