I have two 12" type R's (2004) and I dont have the higher bass response That I want now that I switched to a ported box. I was wondering if a type R 10" sub (2005) would give me the higher bass that I want with out messing up the 12's sound. If I did put in a 10, should I go with a ported box or a sealed box? LMK thanks

I have type R 2004 6.5 comps up front and in back, I am getting 2005 type X 2.5 comps to replace all four. It may be the lack of mid bass the comps have that I think I need to make up for. Do you think This will help?

What I am talking about is this. I notice it the most when I tested out my ported box by playing some bass tracks. It was a blurp that started real high and came way down low. When it was real high, the subs wornt even playing but the lows, it proved to be subs, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Anyways, it seemed like the high bass that it wasn't playing was about 200-250hz(give er take). Will the x's have that in the 6.5s? I have the R's set at high pass on the amp cause they seem to distort other wise at high volumes. LMK.

Well subs should not be playing that high in the first place. If you expect 200hz from your subs, you're not very informed in proper musical reproduction.

Mixing different sized subs is a horrible idea.

Your problem sounds like a midbass problem. Focus on fixing that.

Oh god....that's way way way higher than your subs should be playing anyways. Your lowpass for the subwoofers should be set WAY below that....like, around 50hz to 85hz.

But yeah....those frequencies should be played by your subs anyways. Heck, part of the reason they weren't playing them well could have simply been because of your lowpass crossover for them.

Yes, your fronstage should be playing those frequencies.

I DO NOT have the crossover for the SUBS set that high, its just that I remembering them playing higher than they do now. The components are set to high pass due to distiortion issues and that is why they are not playing lows well. Basicly, will the ported box sound differant than a sealed box or just more bassie?

Also, will the type x's play the mid bass better/have more mid bass? I am not tring to get the 12's to play that high, they just aren't when I thought they used to.

A ported box will be louder... You wont get any better responce in higher frequencys by going ported. You would actually hurt it, in your situation.

The x's are a better comp set than the r's. I would expect them to have more midbass and a smoother responce. But have no hands on XP with either of the 2.

I tell you what, the ported box is a he** of a lot louder. I can actually feel the bass everywere in my body threw out the volume range. I actually built two boxs, the first one was built incorrectly. I actually added wood thickness to the box plans and it already was done, so it was 1.5 inches two wide and deep. Plus, I jewed .5inch off the port due to lack of material. It was a lot louder than the sealed box. I did the math and the internal vol. was around 6cuft and the port was at about 35hz.

The second box was built correctly. It was built at 5cuft@35hz and it was even louder. The differance the first box to the sealed box, that same amount more from the second box to the first ported box. It was that much better. I like it and it should match the x comps. I just hope the mid bass is better.
