1% Thd

Largest source of THD is from the driver itself.

Any net result under approximately 6~8% is considered inaudible, but the driver accounts for the majority of this.

I learned something yet again..thanks, Jlaine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hmm, excuse me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall any driver stating their THD levels. WOuld it have to do with SPL dB/w numbers?

Just for the sake of argument, what kind of SQ could I expect to see if I connected a sealed brahma to this 1000w @ 1ohm 1%THD amp? Is crossfire considered an SPL amp, SQ, or simply floats in the middle?

When I was heavily into home audio back in the early 70's there was a big hoodoo about how much distortion the human ear can perceive. It was pretty much decided that 0.1% was a threshold that most people could hear. Of course that was with monitor speakers and very controlled listening environments.

Distortion in lower frequencies is less perceptable. While 1% is a relatively high number considering state of the art in amp technology, it's not a problem for a sub amp. You won't notice.

there really aren't sq and spl amps....at least not nearly to the extent of the driver.....just like JLaine said, most of the distortion is produced by the speaker, not the amp/.

Hmm, i believe there was a little bout about this issue...

compare A/D/S, infinity, zapco amps with things like MTX or something... ther will be an audible difference. Then again, sub amps might not be audible.

someone please clarify, thanks

I won't pretend to know more than Jlaine on this one.. but I've noticed that most THD ratings are at 1khz. How does that translate to different frequncies? My guess is that the distortion is greater with higher frequencies.. but it's just a guess..

Jlaine, you should write a book or at least a big FAQ.

it'd probably exceed the server's DB.

Maybe so, but it is a **** good topic. I would take the time to read it. and reconnect to the net as many times as takes to finish reading it. Frickin dial up modem.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif
