1 sinple question....

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Distortion at what level?
Higher levels at lower power, less distortion would be needed at higher power levels to blow a speaker, right? Maybe I'll just crawl back in my hole...

subwoofers are extremely inefficient. even at full clipping, at 1/10th power handling you're not looking at enough heat to kill a sub. disortion can kill a sub, but i've seen it happen MUCH more often from over powering

Also depends on your speakers, my sony 6x9's are rated at 100 rms, and they can't even handle the 75 rms my amp will put out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif , got em at 60, they ****in **** lol (and yes, i set the amp with the HU settings I use).

Nope, I've been speaking in generalizations and hyperbole this whole thread.
Alright, just as long as you identify that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

In a week when I pick up my 2A3 rig from home, I might do some testing at clipping or near the clipping threshold. Those do 3.5w at approximately 5% THD...or so the military specs go. So it'll be around 7 watts clipped balls to the wall, throwing out gratitious amounts of second harmonic distortion...I'm sure my 100w-rated Klipsch's won't have a problem with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

let it be known that I edited my post b4 I read this one, so I wouldn't have this kind of rebuttle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

either way dude, you better be careful. those 7 watts at clipping are gonna be dangerous to your 100w speakers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Totally.

Because we know that underpowering kills speakers...

Wouldn't distortion numbers vary according to speaker and input power anyway?

I've played squares waves through my heresys off of 35w(1979 Yamaha, no tubes but still a nice little old reciever) and i think i heard them laugh at me and ask for more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
