if my speakers have 100 watt rms power handling and i use a AMP to produce 100 watt rms each speaker will i blow my speakers after sometime since im using the max handling power....

and same thing for subs ?

if not how much power will it take to blow my speakers (ex 125w / 115w )

thanks

Most speakers blow because of distortion not over power, as long as you set the gains right to avoid clipping you're good. Usaully the manufacturer will have an RMS and a Peak power rating. Matching RMS is generally a good thing with decent equipment. Most of the time, you won't be sending a full 100w to the speakers anyway due to impedance rise and music dynamics.

That all depends on the speaker and how clean the signal is you send to it. You can blow a 1000w sub off 100w if you really want to. You could also potentially send it 2000w(albeit not for great period of time) and not blow it.

not gonna comment on that one... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
Because you have no clue...

It is possible to blow a 1000 watt speaker on 100 watts. But power will not be the cause.

As long as you install everything properlly, you wont blow the equipment. Granted those are true ratings, and you know how to install properlly...

I dunno dude. I just cant blow my Ti freeair. I cant even get it to smell with 90W. Regardless of what I do.

i know a guy who has a diamond 12" D6 and he was running it off a JL 250/1 and he blew it up. i have the same sub right now running off a D5 1200.1 and it hasnt blown up.

Ive never heard of that man. i meen i dont care what the hell u do i have never seen a 1000w sub blow by 100w o well though, i guess it happens im not ganna argue i

Well one of the main reasons for driver failure is lack of thermal dissapation, so in that sense, it can be done.

Gains cranked + Volume cranked + bass boost cranked = Death of a 1000w speaker at the hands of 100w amp.

The RMS rating of a speaker is the ideal amount of power you'd like to be sending your speaker. As long as the gains are set correctly, you'll never have to worry about blowing it.

Thats right! I was really just trying to make a point that it isnt power that blows a speaker, but distortion that does. I'd imagine it would be pretty hard to blow a speaker off 10% power unless the VC(s) are really small and/or cheap and youve got exteme amounts of distortion. Especially something made like a XXX or Brahma, Sonys and Audiobahns on the other hand...

oh i pretty much know what i talk about im not a n00b runnin around on here
it might be possible, but its pure theory, until i actually see it happen... i dont believe an amp that can only put out 1/5th of the total power the sub can take thermally while clipped to (lets just say a pure square wave, perfect one, pretty much impossible but lets just say so) its maximum... is gonna blow it no matter what... lets say its playing a straight test tone, 40hz. that speaker is still moving back and forth fourty times a second, thats a lot of cooling...
