Last night on my way home from work I decided to check out this audio shop called Soundwërks
He said that he was un-aware of this skipping issue with Pioneer and said that he uses mostly Alpine headunits in there hi-spl vehicles.. He then said we've been working on a Escalade truck with (3) 1000/1's on (3) 13w7's that has a Alpine headunit and it handles the SPL with no problem. He asked if I wanted to hear it and I said hell ya for sure, who wouldnt wan't to hear a setup like that
. We proceded to the back of the install bay where this clean pearl white escalade sitting on 24's was and told me to hop in. He turned it on and said hopefully there's a cd in here that will do the job and sure enough he skipped forward a few tracks and Young Jeezy Hypnotize came on I was like oh right here this song will do, obvoisly the owner really knows what songs hit..
He started to crank it up to full tilt and it was loud and sql was great, but not the type of loud that makes you want to cover your ears becuase you feel a sharp pain in your eardrum. I looked back and the w7's were moving alot and the looks of that super fat surround when it's in action is pretty sick. So after the demo I asked him how many cuft each sub had he said 2.5 per sub and that it was tuned at 30hz. I aslo told him how great it sounded, but told him that I think my 18" BTL may have him beat or at least tied in SPL.
I asked him if he wanted to see my setup and he said sure. We head out to my blazer and I browse to the exact same song by young jeezy and begin the test when I reached full tilt he actually had to plug his ears, but then my **** cd skipped as it allways does! After the test he said wow, thats loud and also said when your exposed to SPL for as long as I am you ears can't take it like they used to. He actaully told me that on the meter I probably would be hitting a couple db over the (3) 13w7 setup. I was very happy to hear this.
I know this comparison is useless without actaully getting both vehicles metered, but to still have an experienced car audio installer make a comment like that really made my day.
BTW he also had (4) yellow tops and I only have (2) yellow tops with double 1/0 gauge runs.
Just wanted to let you guys know this, let me know what you think...
