Hey guys,

I just had 1 15" kicker comp vr installed in my car with a sony xplod 1000 watt amplifier. The ford explorer had the factory subwoofer jbl system so the shop bypassed that with a little box and I think that they somehow tapped into the wires and ran RCA cables to the amp. So they are not true RCA cables. I am also running the stock headunit which is why they had to tap into a wire for the remote also. heres my problem, the sub works, but it does not hit hard at all. Its just a little bit better than the factory system and thats when the radio is turned up really loud. You can feel it, but nothing like the car it was in before with the same amp and same subwoofer. What is it that could be wrong. Did they mess up the wiring. Could the amp be bad? Do I NEED a custom headunit? Please help, I reallly want music!! The shop is so stupid and they told me they dont know whats up and Im like if I buy a new headunit and a new amp will it work and they said maybe. I dont understand this. What the hell is going on, they are taking me in circles and wasting all my money. They also said that if they use the factory little amp, somehow they could use that to make it sound a little better MAYBE!!

Mike

Check the settings on the amp, what filter is the crossover set on, what is the gain set to? Could be because you're not getting enough voltage from the LLC that I'm assuming they used. You could get a line driver and hook up the RCA's to that, so you could keep the factory headunit. Or you could go get an aftermarket headunit. Which ever should work. If you have a DMM check the voltage of the RCA's.

What should the filter thingy on the amp be set at? What kinda advantage will I get with a aftermarket headunit? what should the voltage of the RCAs be at?

The crossover filter on the amp, should be, put on LPF (For low pass filter). There are many advantages with an aftermarket headunit, depending on the quality of the product, and it's functions. For a few examples, you can get better sound quality from them, have an easier time hooked up aftermarket equipment, like crossover networks, other audio inputs (Ipods, MusicKegs, ect. ect), you can also have one with MP3 Player Capabilities so you don't have to go out and spend a ***t load on an MP3 player, and can spend just a few dollars on blank CDs. The voltages on the RCA's are very dependant on the output channels, it should have a fairly good readings though.
