What are most songs recorded at?

I know a lot of people say to tune your subwoofer amp with a test tone of 0db, just in case you hit a song that is 0db. However I feel like most songs are recorded much lower, which in turn loses you tons of power after you tuned your system and you waste your time putting big money into getting a big amp, if you tuned it at 0db.

What do most of you tune your sub with?

I tune mine by ear...for me...I take in account of pre amp voltage...etc...plus I have a gain knob for the sub,so I can adjust it according how the song/bass line is..amps usually about half gain.

I was thinking about doing it that way it almost seems more accurate than with a dmm since I don't have a o-scope. What type of song do you usually tune it with when you do it by ear?
