07 C6 Headunit Probs

Ok to put it in a nutshell, I traded in my 07 Tahoe for a new corvette.

I pulled out the Alpine IVA-w200 and blackbird/Dock system.

Since the corvette does NOT have bose/onstar I had a local shop remove the per. GMLANB interface and install a GMCO(retains chimes and warnings)

to the good part, I have the car stripped down and the wiring ran, I wanted to test the system before putting everything back together. everythign works BUT:

1: when the system powers up i get a pop from the speakers

2: even with the hu vol on zer;muted;paused - etc, i have a static "buzz"

3: The volume.....the vol seems to be very amplified. when the unit was in my tahoe the 20 mark was about as loud as you could listen to it before things became distorted and screeching. This point in the corvette is around 4-5.

Any idea what is going on here? Ive exhausted google and the corvette forums....

Thanks in advance

James

it definatly has a factory amp. what is happening, is you are basically sending an amped signal into an amplifer and like trippling your output. but you are also over driving the amplifier REAL hard.

imagine that you have a car, and its only supposed to go a certain speed or it will over heat. well, you go over the speed by like 5x. thats what the amp is doin. its only supposed to get like 3v input from the stock cd player, and you are giving it like 18v input lol.

so running new wires is a good way to circumvent the entire problem. but new problems arise, mainly the fact that the crossovers are internal to the amplifier or the headunit. so the speakers in the car get a full 20~20 signal. so you might be stuck with upgrading to a set of components in the doors and running speaker wires straight to them. while you are at it, you might as well get an amp for them too.

spend another $200 on speakers and $150 on an amp. nothing extravagant. but hey, it will sound a hell of a lot better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

wow.......

any other fixes for now? Why didnt this HU do this to the Bose system in the tahoe?

I am terrified of audio wiring in fear I will fry wires and such. IF I have to go the complete component route, what will be suitable?

ALSO: this is what Ive gotten from another forum........

Do you know if the shop you had do the wiring used the low level outputs out of the head unit, or if they wired it using the speaker level outs?

Your Corvette should have an amplifier driving the speakers. The OEM head unit uses a low level output to feed the amp.

If they used the speaker level outputs from the head unit to the GMCO, it would cause the problems that you're finding - high level output feeding a line level input on the amp would have everything (background noise, and music) amplified.

The problem is that the GMCO instructions are written based on normal GM cars, and they didn't even put in any mention of wiring in cars that may have a stock amplifier.

I'd check with the shop that did your original instal. If they did wire to the speaker level inputs, then they also probably cut off the RCA ends on the GMCO.

AND the low level pins..... is it possible to tap into these or am I making no sense what so ever?

UPDATE:

talked to the shop today, they pretty much think I crazy, I am going to take it to them on friday or sat morn and let them figure this out.

Bummer

they could add a Sven 4

RCA - Lineout

You could plug the RCA's into your HU & The Speakerwires into the Sven4's Output wires.. Have them find the remote turnon for the OE Amp & you should be set..

Another way around the problem I guess..

Peace & Good Luck

Troy
