Yes, you need to find out if there are any dealers near you.

u cant buy direct anymore...its just the msrp price, only through dealer can be bought.

yup.

worth spending the extra money?

for me (and I own one), it wasn't. It's a better woofer, but my 2 old 12" XXX's (which, combined, were still cheaper than one new XXX at dealer pricing) together sounded much better (and looooouuuuder).

1 new XXX > 1 old XXX

2 old XXX > 1 new XXX

If you've got the cash to burn, then go for it. If you're like me (starving college student), then you should probably go a different route.
