05 re audio xxx ?

well i just pick up a 18'' re xxx 05 model to day for dirt cheap i have a couple ? this is my first re sub will this sub do well in a sealed box around 4 cube. and what is the pro's/con's in sealed box i know they do better in a ported boxs .

well a sealed box cuts the DBs in half.. so doing that would only give you half of the DBs..

that sounds far feched so your telling me that if im doing a 140 db wht a ported boxs than ill do 70db in a sealed boxs haha

Hes right..crazy i know. You just dont put a 18 xxx in a sealed box. Its a monster of a sub and it will be crying day and night if you put it in a sealed box. It has so much more potential.

the box came free wht the woofer which i paid 200 for wht a fresh recone thanks for the help

The old style XXX was great in a sealed enclosure. It has an EBP in the mid 40s, IIRC...and a ton of linear travel. The people who are telling you to go ported are bassheads that will tell you that for everything. "Better" is a relative term.

The new style XXX is a ported-only driver.
