Featured How to Fix Pioneer NEX4100 Stuck Screen

Back in 2014 I bought a new Jeep Patriot and had the stock radio replaced with a Pioneer NEX4100. I sold it to a friend a couple years ago, and did a factory reset before I sold. Recently she told me that it's stuck on a screen with an OK button, but pressing doesn't do anything, so she can't get past it. It worked great for her up until now, and God knows if she pressed a button or something and messed things up. (SS are her initials, so the password might be her name, but she really doesn't know). She lives a couple hundred miles away, so I'm trying to help her over the phone, and honestly I don't recall all of the specifics of the radio. Can anyone give me instructions that I can pass onto her so she can get the radio functioning and she stops asking me? Thanks!

To help your friend with the Pioneer NEX4100 radio that is asking for a password, you can guide her through the following steps:

1. **Input the Password**: Since the hint is "ss," suggest that she tries entering "ss" using the radio's touch screen or physical buttons. Sometimes, passwords are case-sensitive, so if it doesn't work, she might try variations like "SS" or even "S".

2. **Reset the Radio**: If entering the password doesn't work, she can try resetting the radio. Here’s how:
- **Disconnect the Battery**: If she's comfortable, she can disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery for a few minutes. This often resets the unit.
- **Use the Reset Button**: Check if the radio has a small reset button (usually a pinhole) on the faceplate. Press it using a paperclip or similar tool.

3. **Consult the Manual**: If she has the user manual, it could provide specific instructions or troubleshooting tips for entering the password.

4. **Contact Pioneer Support**: If none of the above solutions work, it might be best for her to reach out to Pioneer customer support for assistance.

Make sure she follows these steps carefully, and hopefully, she'll be able to get her radio functioning again!

I can’t believe there are passwords for this sort of stuff, this has to hurt more people than it helps. Seems like a common problem, and even if you remember the password it doesn't work when you enter it for various people. Anyway, this is what I see from a quick search, I did not even know these had passwords like this, makes me never want one of these.

I seen this video which might be worth a try, some of the reset procedures seem to work for various models.

Then there is this one which is a lot more involved.

Some threads dedicated to Pioneer password reset. Could be a headache.

And a screenshot from the one thread with the most simple thing to try (same thing in the first video link if I recall too).
