did you test at the speaker or at the rca's? because my pioneer hu can clip the front speakers but not on the rca output. i cant really get to the speaker and it would be a pain to take out the headunit to test it at the back. like out of 60, going above 50 the speakers distort but even at 55...

maybe you have your headunit turned up too high, causing it to clip the rca signal? so even if you have the head unit halfway the sub still sounds bad? how about the bass settings on the head unit, is there bass boost or a bass setting/ audio loudness or equalizer, Rear Bass Enhancer, and...

id agree with boomintahoe, get a sundown yard sale sub. just got a zv4 from it, works great.

another way to test if its the amp is to wire an ipod or something to the amp, 3.55 mm jack to rca inputs on the amp, if its clean from a direct connection to an ipod, then it may be the head unit or rca cables. also double check the speaker with a dmm, make sure you wired the sub the right way...

Have you made sure the subwoofer output is on, on the hu? play some bassy music/tone and put the DMM to ac volts and tell us what the ac volts is reading. also define not hitting? do you actually get bass output? video would be nice to see whats happening.

thats still a maybe. I would say use the 12, make a ported box. make the box like 2.25 cu ft -3 cubes. honestly the better suited box will work out best. the 12 will sound better in a 3 cu ft box than the 15.

most likely yeah. 15 would want like 3 cubes min sealed. are you restricted on box size? looking for louder, go ported.
