im half way through my mj18 build and i was wondering.. would mounting my bash 500 plate amp in the back of the box as they do on smaller subs be bad? i feel like it would get rattled to **** in there. is that what most people do or do they partition them off in some way?

alright im doing an L port, it fits fine cause of the massive volume. ive been going with the guess and check method on the calculator as sugjested. I just have one question. does anyone know the displacement of a mj-18? i cant find it.

well if i know the volume i need, and the tuning frequency, how do i figure out port width and length that i need to plug into RE's calculator?

so ive read up plenty of making a ported box but im still rather confused. I got a copy of bassbox pro, and ive tried using the RE calculator but i keep running into problems. bass box kept telling me that my port wouldn't fit, but didn't give me the option of doing an L shaped port at all...

^^ i second that, having owned both as well. One thing is for people with space limitations an X is great to fit some good power in a tight space. Mines great in my truck.

he could consider buying another 1606. the x can handle all the power that amp can push at 2 ohm's. at least he wouldnt have to deal with selling anything in that case. i have one x sealed running off a 1606 and i love it.

im runnin a 10" type x myself at 1000w and loving the sq and its still got more than enough power for me. serious back massage

it will obviously be louder ported. im just saying you cant just say oh it has to be ported, theres alot more to consider like space and application. not everyone is all about spl. theres way to many single minded people on this forum.

type R's sound just fine in a sealed box.. how could they sound bad? its not like porting is going to get you better SQ or something. that was a really stupid thread. thanks for wasting my time.
