Subwoofer Advice - Sealed sub that plays low or ported sub?

I'm looking to make a fiberglass subwoofer box in the spare tire area of my 2004 Forester (I have a non-stock tire size so I can't use the spare anyway). There's about 3 cubic feet of space in the box. Originally, I had planned to use my old Alpine Type R 10" (SWR-1043D) in that area and make a...

Ported Fiberglass Wheel Well Sub Box

Hey guys, I have a 2004 Subaru Forester, and I'm looking to make a fiberglass box in the wheel well of the trunk, like this: I have two subwoofers laying around that I could use for this project: Sundown SA-12, or Alpine SWR-1043D. I imagine the Type R will be a bit easier to use since it's...

LPF Help - can't turn off amp or headunit LPF

Hey guys, I have a JVC KD-R730BT head unit and a Hifonics BRZ1200.1D. I have my head unit LPF settings (55,85,120) with no off setting, and my amp's LPF settings (I believe 50-210) with no off setting. Anyway, I want the sub to roll off around 80-100Hz, but I have a filter coming from both...

    Sundown SA 10 or 12...

I can't decide! I listen to a lot of rock, metal, electronic (mostly trap and dubstep), and some rap. I'm gonna put either sub in a ported box and run it off my Hifonics BRZ1200.1D that I have from my old build, but I'm not sure whether to get a 10 or 12. Space isn't so much an issue, but I do...

    Looking to upgrade from SWR-1043D

Hey guys, I've got an SWR-1043D in a custom cubby box for my Jeep. It's sealed and roughly 0.8ft^3. I'm running the sub at 900w from a Hifonics BRZ1200.1D. I'm looking for an all around upgrade but don't really want to change the box if I don't have to. I was thinking of building a second box...

Having some issues with my setup...

I checked my phase today because I took the doors off my Jeep and had to change the wire to a disconnectable one. I tried it both ways and the problem still lies. Neither way sounded better at all. Sounded the same. My only guess is that it could be the speakers lacking midbass and I just need...

Having some issues with my setup...

All EQs are flat. LPF is 90Hz or so and HPF is 85Hz. I assume the speaker is out of phase because when I shut my door the midbass goes away.

Having some issues with my setup...

So I noticed today that when I open the driver door, the midbass improves dramatically. I assume that speaker is probably out of phase, then?

Having some issues with my setup...

I'm having a few problems with my setup. I've been running it for the past year and a half and I've had enough. My problems only occur when I'm sitting in the driver or passenger seat, also. If I sit in the back of my car (2001 Jeep Cherokee), then the system sounds perfect. Problems in the...

Looking for a new 10" subwoofer...

I'm trying to achieve more SQ and possibly a bit more volume than my current Type R 10.

Looking for a new 10" subwoofer...

And that would be a lot better than a Sundown sub?

Looking for a new 10" subwoofer...

Those subs are a bit too deep for the box.

Looking for a new 10" subwoofer...

Hey guys. I've currently got a 10" Alpine SWR-1043D in a .8ft^3 sealed box getting around 850W at 2 ohm, and it sounds pretty good. I'd like to upgrade, though, as I'd like a sub with a bit better quality, and possibly more volume. I don't really want to change my enclosure, as I have a custom...

    Type R 10" sealed problem

I've got 4 gauge going to the amp and 12 gauge going to the sub. It's getting ~600-650 watts. Perhaps the wire is too small... Hadn't thought of that. That could also explain the clipping at 3/5 power. Dunno.
