Head Units and External Hard Drives

SilverDude, Do you have anything in the owners manual for that Pioneer Head Unit that shows the amps/volts the USB can power? Just curious because what I found was that the hard drive mA requirements must be below 500 mA on the Kenwood and the head unit will power the hard drive without the...

Head Units and External Hard Drives

I wanted to post another finding I had with using my USB powered Iomega Silver portable hard drive. The other day I wanted to add some files to it and grabbed it out of my glovebox. Normally I grab the USB cable as well, but this time I figured I have the one for my cell phone in my laptop bag...

Head Units and External Hard Drives

All Kenwoods with the USB port can handle external hard drives, not just flash drives/ipods/mps players. My hard drive now has over 300 folders/playlists on it and the head unit seems to be able to handle as many as I am willing to save to the hard drive. I use the PhatNoise Media software...

Head Units and External Hard Drives

Adam, Not sure about the Pioneer options you questioned, but a Kenwood Head Unit and using the PhatNoise Media Software and a portable USB powered hard drive like the one I mentioned above and you can do exactly what you are asking. I have nearly 5000 m4a music files on my portable hard drive...

    Kenwood Dpx701 (dpx-701)

First of all I am by no means am an audiophile or car audio expert. I have messed with car audio for the last 20 years, but would not consider myself anywhere near an expert, but rather a slightly more than average car audio knowledgeable person. The vehicle is a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado...

Head Units and External Hard Drives

That looks just like the one I am using except mine is only an 80 GB drive. Here is the one I am using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822161635 Oh and I am powering it through the single USB off the Kenwood DPX701 head unit! It works great. Startup takes about 30...

    Sub Setup Sugestions?

I have the same Kenwood head unit in my 2005 Silverado regular cab with a 12" Rockford Fosgate sub behind the seat. I eneded up putting it in a regular plain jane sub box I got from millionbuy.com. That along with Kenwood Excelon speakers up front and in the side cab and a 5 channel amp and I...

Head Units and External Hard Drives

Check out the Iomega silver series portable hard drives. They come with a Y Cable double USB power cable OR a 5V input and a switch so you can decide how to supply power (via single or double USB or via the 5V input). I am using it with my Kenwood DPX701 HU and powering it though the single...

Need a CD alternative HU solution (HDD capable..etc..)

I am using an Iomega 80 GB Silver Portable HD with my Kenwood DPX701 HU with no problems whatsoever. The HU only supplies 500 mA and the Iomega drive takes that or less to startup and function. I tried an I/O Magic drive and it would not start up using only the HU USB power. I researched the...

USB HUs and HDD - External

I have a Kenwood DPX701 HU with USB port. I use an 80 GB Iomega Silver portable hard drive. It works great. I used the PhatNoise software that came with the HU to setup and install the music on the drive. Initial start up of the drive is slower than a flash drive, but not so slow to be...

ACDrive / Phatnoise USB HU Opinions

I have a Kenwood DPX701 HU and use the PhatNoise software. I love it. It is pretty simple and so far not a single problem with it. I have been using two 2 gig Sony Flashdrives and a 1 gig MicroCruizer flash drive. From what I have seen, it is best to use the PhatNoise software so that it...

    annoying crap...

If you are playing a lot of cheaper burned cd's, then make sure the center and edges are all de-burred. You can use the side of a ballpoint pen to run around the edges to take any burrs off.

    Kenwood DPX701 or Clarion ADB340mp?

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado. It has a double din opening (correct?). I am considering either a Kenwood DPX701 or Clarion ADB340mp. I have Kenwood Excelon 6.5" front and 4x6" rear speakers, a 5 channel amp and a Rockford Fosgate 12" sub. Which head unit would you get and why? Edit: and have...

    Sub up against seat....bad?

I can not slide the seat forward as this is a regular cab full size truck and the center does not move...just the two side seats move. It probably doesn't hit as hard as it would in clean air, but it surprising sounds pretty decent considering the space I have to work with. I'll have to try to...
