What impedance are the coils? D2 or D4?

Find the crossover and see if the connections are solid. Then the speaker connections. If there amplified check there as well. Id check whichever is easiest to get to first.

The equipment is a major upgrade, but its still dependent on install.

That depends, do you want replace your alternator in 6 months or 2 years or 4 years? The more power you add the more strain your going to put on electrical system. Whatever you decide to do make sure you do the "Big 3" and maybe upgrade your battery(unless you already have a good one).
