It uses the ground from the front battery terminal where you hookup the wire for it. It's like plugging a battery together making the two of them one by hooking the postive to the back batttery and the negative to the back battery from the first one you don't ground it to the car it's ground to...

It says two channel so try it if it doesn't sound right unhook it and ask someone at a shop or something for a little more hands on help most are willing if your respectful to them. It should do it at about 130w a piece.

Power and ground to the second batt from the first one and fuse the positive cable.

Caps are not always that accurate and it sounds like your meter isn't either you really shouldn't be able to start it with that low voltage. But i've seen some crazy stuff before. Check your batt in your meter sometimes when there going dead they misread voltages.

It's always good to keep a charge on a battery that sits for any length of time most good chargers have a battery tenderizer setting like a trickle charge to keep the battery up.

Fuse it always a safe way to go.

Maybe a better alt won't have to replace as quicly as a batt.
