Question about audio from (Kenwood) HU when you send video to an overhead monitor

I have a Kenwood DDX5901HD DVD receiver HU in my 2014 Sienna. I want to install an overhead monitor to keep the kids entertained. I'm thinking of the Alpine PKG-RSE3DVD. I plan to send video to the monitor from the HU yellow RCA output on the HU to the input on the monitor. Basically, what I...

    Where's the Ground

Sounds like a bad@$$ car, or one prone to fire (Pinto?)... All cars are different, but in my Sienna I grounded my underseat amp to one of the big metal seat bolts (after scratching off the paint on the metal below the bolt) that holds the seats to the frame. I know it's not recommended, but...

How important is heat shrinking when using butt connectors for install?

Thanks, I discovered those at Lowe's and that does seem like an ideal option. Unfortunately, they only sold them in varying size packs @ $10/pack and I would need to buy 3 packs so I just used non-heat shrink butt connectors and finished my install.

How important is heat shrinking when using butt connectors for install?

I know the reason is to prevent moisture and corrosion on the metal wires/connections, but is it that important to use heat shrink butt connectors versus standard butt connectors when installing a receiver? I'm asking mostly because I already made a bunch of connections using non-heat shrinking...

How to connect multiple ground wires?

Okay, thanks! Just wasn't sure if it was okay to connect more than one ground wire to the factory ground wire, but if it's okay that's the easiest way I guess.

How to connect multiple ground wires?

Not sure if this is off topic, but I haven't been able to find an answer by searching here and the internet. I have a new receiver I want to install in addition to a steering wheel adapter and a backup camera. All need ground wire connections. The receiver connects to the stock car wire...

Too much "hiss" after new speaker/amp install -- help!

Thanks for the input/suggestion. The Clarion amp I have also has speaker level inputs but I used a LOC because I wanted to run RCAs (for future upgrade to aftermarket receiver that will have RCA outs). That Alpine (KTP-445U) is pretty compact like my Clarion (XC1410) but even so, there's no...

Too much "hiss" after new speaker/amp install -- help!

So I got the PAC LOC today and swapped it for the Rockford LOC that I had installed previously. I made a better ground attachment for the LOC, but still just to a metal screw (between the screw head and a washer, although not ideal as the screw goes into a metal thread but lies on top of...

Too much "hiss" after new speaker/amp install -- help!

Thanks to everyone for the replies/input, it's greatly appreciated! I was thinking that too, but the amp (XC1410) is a compact amp and actually has no gain controls, aside from low setting for RCA input and high for speaker level input. The Rockford line converter also has no gain controls...

Too much "hiss" after new speaker/amp install -- help!

Hi folks, I just installed (myself) a set of new components (JL C5-650) and a new amp (Clarion XC1410) in my 2014 Toyota Sienna. Here's the background: - I am using the stock navi HU along with a Rockford Fosgate 4-channel line out converter to take the high stock audio outs to low RCA outs...

What are the shallowest (top mount) 6.5" speakers?

Thanks y'all. Never heard of those brands, but then again I'm only familiar with the big name brands. Only problem is that the shallower the speaker the lower the rated RMS seems to be. My amp will be 50W RMS so won't be able to run these within the recommended RMS (although I hear that it...

What are the shallowest (top mount) 6.5" speakers?

The JBL GTO6528s and the Polk shallow mount (db651s and the dxi version) are the shallowest mount (top mount) 6.5" speakers I've found. Does anyone know if there are any others that are comparable? The JBL has a 1-11/16" top mount depth and protrudes only 1/3" or so, and the Polk db651s has a...

Anyone with experience with JBL GTO 6528s (shallow mount) speakers?

I did a search but nothing turned up (here or on google). I have a 2014 Sienna with rear speakers with very little room to work with, and I found that JBL makes/made a very shallow depth 6.5" coaxial speaker, the GTO 6528s. It is only a little more than 1.5" top mount depth and protrudes...

Component install in a civic coupe

In general, it seems the easiest way to install speakers where you need a mounting bracket is to just use the stock speaker as a bracket by gutting it and removing everything except the frame and screwing your new speakers into that gutted frame. Then it's guaranteed to fit, well you still need...
