I've got my new style 12" BTL tuned at 31.5 hz and the lows are awesome. No experience with 18"s though. Did you check the enclosure thread on SSA? They list the recommended volume and port tuning.

What do you think about two 10"? 10" have an inherent capability to have a lower Fe which makes them a good choice for rock and the occasional hip hop bug.
