I've had mine for 3 months and I have some skipping, but figured it was because I need to get the backstrap tightened up and keep forgetting to get around to it. As for errors in reading, haven't had that problem.

It's been my experience, although somewhat limited, that most amps do NOT come with speaker level inputs.

You will need line output converters. They are a box that takes the speaker level output and converts it to an RCA output. Below is a link to one Crutchfield sells, but you can find them at Bestbuy and probably most car audio places as well...

I don't know about UTP, but STP is generally fairly stiff and difficult to work with, isn't it? Not sure you would want something that stiff in a car audio application.
