Well to update...I returned the Infinity Kappas back to Frys and got my $190 back. I borrowed a few subwoofers from friends and am actually getting what I would consider to be really good sound. But since I am borrowing them, I will need to give them back... I borrowed some Sony Xplod 10's...

About 12 or so; it depends how you drive. The car has cruise control and can probably do about 15 or 16 on the freeway. The car no longer has the Motorcraft 4350...It has a Holley 4160 now which is probably more efficient.

Yes you can use a relay. It is just an electromagnetic switch that switches when it is energized, instead of when you toggle it, or when you press the button. You can do all sorts of things with them. The wiring for a SPST relay can be found online and most likely on the back of the packaging...
