I took a speaker from inside out to the truck and tried that... no sound. Yesterday the sub was back on for a little while and then turned off. I think the amp is just slowly dying (well, mostly dead and only alive a little at a time now). I'll check out these recommendations... thank you!

I have been pushing a single Arc 12d4 with a JL 500/1 (old version). The amp died earlier this week on me... no sound coming out and I don't really have the skill to open it for troubleshooting. I'm looking for something new and am not really sure what to get. I've had JL amps forever...

flipped the sub around.... it's improved for sure and I have to admit I'm a little shocked. Still has a strong top end to it but I think that's mostly coming from my rear deck speakers. I'm going to adjust the levels on the amp a little to allow me to turn the bass down inside the car now and...

ah... yeah, hadn't thought about that, great idea. I can def do that and it'll def give me the answer about whether or not it's the signal.

I can't just replace the head unit, it's built into the iDrive computer that controls everything else in the car (vent controls, nav, bluetooth, service, lighting, etc). I suppose I could add an additional HU but it doesn't sound *that* bad. I want to keep it looking factory. The quality is...

I can't bypass the amp because I'm not sure how it is getting it's signal. The iDrive dealio is a headache to deal with, BMW doesn't play nice with allowing customization. The amp is also driving another set of speakers along with the factory subs, I'm assuming the rear deck.

I'm thinking air space as well, I'll turn it around and fire the other direction tonight to see what happens. If air space is part of the problem would dropping my speaker size help? Maybe drop down to a good 10" sub or a couple of 8's?? Going back many years... had 3 8w6's in a smaller car...

I’m having a problem with sound quality from a subwoofer and am hoping that someone can help me fix it. I used to have a 2004 Suburban with a Pioneer headunit (subwoofer out, eq, etc) feeding a JL 500/1 amp pushing a 12” ARC subwoofer. Amazing… I could run at nearly any volume and the quality...

Box is approx. 10x10x32. Ground shipping likely will be something under $25 if I did everything right on UPS' website (I didn't test with your addy specifically). $150+actual shipping.

JL audio spec sheet is here... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/8-12W6_BDS.pdf This is what I used when building the box. It's ever slightly larger to accomodate some bracing inside the box to make it a little stronger. The box does me no good without the speakers though I imagine it will lower...
