Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

Just wanted to update everyone that it was indeed a grounding issue and the amps are fine. They run very cool now. Thank you Jacob and others who offered their help.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

Will do. Besides visually checking the physical ground connection, what is the best way to check electrically. Do I check if there is a voltage difference between the grounding wire on the amp and the true ground all the way at the battery? Or do I just check to see that the voltage between...

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

Yes, that is why I bought these two amps, and now I'm glad I did.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

Yes both say tested. This is why I feel like I have something wired wrong or I did something incorrectly, but I can't think of anything. They play fine and sound normal before they overheat.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

OK, I'll do that today. I just want to reiterate that the 1000 went into thermal and the 100.4 was just as hot while neither amp was playing anything.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

The 1000 when into thermal inside a garage, the 100.4 was very hot as well. I can check my voltage but I think its fine. As for ground I believe its good, I guess I'll check that again. Gain settings on both amps are only at about 25%.

It was hot yesterday when I finally decided to stop using them, but I the amps did the same thing when i installed them a few days ago when the car was inside a cool garage.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

The 1000 went into thermal a couple of times, and then yesterday it did it again and i just cut the remote wire to both of them so I did not do any damage.

Again, I don't think its the actual amps. This can't be normal.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

They are located on the back of my rear seats in the trunk. They are open to the entire air in the trunk.

Problem with 2 Sundown amps overheating...

I have a problem with both of my amps overheating. They will start to slowly overheat as soon as they are turned on (I don't even have to play anything on them) Both are Sundowns... a SAE1000D and a SAX100.4. I will call Sundown about this issue later but I doubt there amps are bad because...
