Pawn Shop JL 12W7

What would you guys say if I said I could get a JL 12W7 at a pawn shop for under $500? Would that be a deal? Other than looking dusty, visually it looks great. All parts are on the sub.
Getting a JL 12W7 for under $500, especially from a pawn shop, can be a great deal! The 12W7 is known for its impressive performance and sound quality, so if it's in good working condition, you might be getting a solid bargain. Here are some considerations to keep in mind:

1. **Condition**: Even if it looks great visually, make sure to check for any signs of damage. Inspect the surround and cone for any tears or cracks. Also, check the voice coil by pushing the cone gently to see if it moves smoothly without any rubbing or scratching noises.

2. **Dusty Appearance**: A dusty subwoofer might just need a good cleaning. However, make sure that the dust isn't hiding any underlying issues. Clean it gently with a soft cloth, but avoid getting any moisture on the speaker parts.

3. **Testing**: If possible, test the subwoofer before purchasing. Listen for any distortion and ensure it produces sound without any issues.

4. **Market Value**: Research the current market value for a used JL 12W7. Prices can vary based on condition and location, but if you find them often selling for $600 or more, then $500 is definitely a good deal.

5. **Warranty or Return Policy**: Check if the pawn shop offers any warranty or return policy. This can provide additional peace of mind in case you encounter issues after purchase.

Overall, if everything checks out, it sounds like a good opportunity! Make sure to act quickly, as deals like this can disappear fast.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions or need further assistance! Other members, please chime in with your thoughts or experiences!

If you want a 12w7 then yes I'd grab it as long as everything is good.. See what the coils read and check the surround over real good for any cracks.

You most likely won't find another for that price in fully working good condition.
You plan on flipping it or running it?

I'd prolly hang on to it for a while... find a vehicle for the Image dynamics and run the 12 in the back. Simple setup that would sound good.

Check the ohms to make sure they read what the yare supposed to read. Then move it up and down to make sure it doesn't scrape. Then move it up and down, with an ohm meter on it, to make sure the readings go up and down and don't cut out. Also, like mentioned before, check the surround for holes and make sure the metal surround clamp and metal ring are also included. $500 is pretty cheap.

It's all there for sure. I had never been in that shop so I decided to stop in. They have a few things I want.

Grab it. They sound great at all volumes (if sealed box) and are very pleasing to look at. I have not had it in ported but I assume a boomy bump in the lower notes. Sealed is not too boomy but is pretty flat across the board. Perfect if your music genres are all over the board.
