RF Old School vs. New School Comparisons

Gotta love the Punch 60 DSM vs. P5002 comparision
Look how much better the P5002 rated @ 500 watts is when compared to an amplifier rated at 120 watts !!! Like OMG !!! New amps so = t3h w1n !!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
I like that one because the DSM goes nuts on 14.4v but the 5002 gains nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

marketing

i guess it's a better business move to actually state the power that the amp produces instead of assuming all your consumers know the degree to which they were underrated? the *slight* underrating of the new ones seem like theyre more for compensating voltage loss and stuff no?

Because they have to do it by MSRP, even though the cost of parts and manufacturing has dropped significantly since then and profit margins per amp have dropped significantly ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
All the Old-School amps are capable of producing over double their rated power, whereas the New-School Punch amps are like

X2.....sad how RF has changed. I've only had one experience with dsm amp and loved it. the like late 90's to like 2001 amps are pretty quality imo as well. Have seen tons in action and never seen anyone have trouble with one. Wish I could say the same for the newer crap which has been around half as long.

That I can't argue....though it looks like this is their way of combating the "RF has gone downhill" reports. Trying to show you that you get just as much (if not more) wattage for your dollar as you always have.

Maybe that just proves that RF has gotten more accurate with their power ratings //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I think back then RF was more... Idk how to say it... User friendly with their ratings, I mean... the 87 Punch 45 like the one sitting in front of me right now was rated a 22.5 watts a channel, 45 bridged but it probably putting out close to 250 wired down to 1.5-1 ohm, whic I had it at and didnt have any problem with it... I love this amp and the 3 others I have like it... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

well the only comparison I found interesting is the Punch 45 vs the new Punch 45 because that was the only one with a glimse of internal build comparisons as opposed to just power/price comparisons. I still dont know what all the hate for Rockford amps come from. The surface mount boards have been dead reliable since they started using it way back when and they are just as overrated as they ever were, especially the power series. so they may use a few less costly components, who the hell doesn't? Pheonix Gold amps use to come with gold plated circuit boards way back when. this aint 91' anymore, you find more cost effective ways or go under or be bought like 75% of the marque brands from the early 90's.. (where the hell are Orion, Soundstream, Linear Power, ADS, Precision Power, Hifonics now. sold and a shell of themselves or out of business. should RF just have continued doing what it did and become one of them?) I could see if RF amps were unreliable, didn't make their rated power or were rediculously priced (tested watts per dollar, not rated watts per dollar) but people are really complaining about nothing other than they can be bought at best buy.

I'm not hating on Rockford's amps, I'm hating on the way they go about disspelling myths ...
Comparing by MSRP from 1990 to MSRP from 2005 is retarded ... If you compared the anything from 1990 to something for the same price today, just about anything is going to use better technology and be more capable. Amplifiers, cars, computers, speakers, sewing machines, TVs, microwaves, etc.; it doesn't matter.

However, comparing EQUIVALENT models is relevant (i.e. Punch 45HD to Punch 45 25-to-life). Comparing your current product to similar products currently made by other companies is relevant. Doing demonstrations to prove the advantages of your product is relevant.

Yes the comparisons are pretty lame but they wouldn't have to stoop that low if people didn't apply an unfair stigma on their newer amps to begin with.

i would bet internet forums are just about the only place where RF amps are bashed, and how much of the total percentage of car audio entusiasts do you think we make up?

You would probably be surprised...........

(not about the percentage, but about how many people outside of internet forums bash the newer RF amps)

Gotta figure, the people on the internet forums do talk to people outside of the internet forums, spreading around all the latest "rumors" to those who aren't up to date with the latest "internet gossip"
