Because IMPORTERS do not want to pay the extra costs (the tariffs) to import a product. The exporting country doesn't like tariffs because then the other country buys less.

This isn't complicated stuff (if your brain isn't super smooth).

They get hung up on the language so they can say "Trump's lying, Trump voters are idiots," etc. Clearly, it's China getting hit with tariff, if technically the importer writes the check, it's still Chinese products getting tariffed. We're NOT taxing importers. Clearly it's the exporter that's being targeted.

You've been repeatedly claiming that if a Chinese company charges $100 for a product with a 25% tariff.....that they'll pay $25 to the US government.

Yes, $25 went straight to the US government.

Nobody is getting "hung up on the language". Tariffs dissuade domestic companies or individuals from buying from a country with a tariff imposed.....because the domestic company or individual will have to pay a tariff to get it into the country.

I've already explained this multiple times. You're either not able to comprehend it, or you aren't reading the post.

Countries don't want tariffs imposed on their country because it makes it more expensive for THE IMPORTER to buy the goods (because they have to pay the tariff to customs)....and they buy less...or none at all.

This is an elementary concept.

Hell, you said I'M not an importer if I buy an e-bike from a Chinese mfgr, and have it shipped here.

Here, let us make it more understandable for Stroker Ace and RobGMN. The Chinese government wants to sell the United States some precious metals for $10,000,000,000. The U.S. likes the price and they want the deal. Sadly there is a 125% tariff on Chinese imports. Guess what is going to happen. They would have to give the United States the precious metals for free plus $2,500,000,000. If I was China, I'd be pissed too.
