Should Dept of Education be shut down? Here's a little "progress report" from my kid's school; we're in what would be considered the best or second best school district in the Denver/Metro area.
In science they did a little experiment; a "collective test." The kids were given a multiple choice question shown on the board with 4 possible answers A-D. The kids had 4 answer cards A-D. The teacher shows the question and the kiddos hold up which card they think is the right answer and the class answer would be whatever the majority answer was. The class scored a D- on their "collective test." The teacher then berated the class. My son asked is this a problem just in this class? The teacher responded it's in all her classes. But they'll pass all these kids on to the next grade.
Last year (5th grade), he had at least 1/3rd of his class reading below grade level with a few reading at 2nd grade level and of course they just pass the kid on to the next grade. So basically those kids are doomed, they'll never catch up and they'll never be afforded the opportunity to catch up. I'm sure some of these kids are the same ones that "failed" the collective science test because these poor kids can't read. Obviously, this goes way beyond the teachers, the school district and the Dept of Education, but clearly the current system which pays the most for the worst results needs to be dismantled. Additionally, this shyt was going on at least since the Clinton administration and the can has just been kicked down the road and down the road and now the Dem's are up arms that TrumpCo dare try and fix it.
