Yes, California stepped it up, but not enough. It was the U.S. Forestry that cleaned most of it up, and it was mostly done in the Sierra's and not near the cities that are in danger. Newsom isn't using the state resources that is required to do more. They are supposed to up to 500,000 acres a year. $23,000 per acre is not that great of a deal. Especially when a lot of that work is done by inmates.

Desalination. They really need to work on their cost to prescribed acre burned ratio too. If they would just desalinate, they could fix a ton of issues, so they'll never do it. That's what massive mismanagement looks like although some will continue to hold up Cali as some sort of beacon of what can be. Think about that and let that sink it - there are ton of MF'ers that think Cali is the example of how the country should be run.

I didn't know they're using inmate labor. $23k/acre is an awesome deal - if you're buying the land. Only in Cali do they pay the purchase price for land just to clear it.

So, the money that has gone to increased staff, firefighting equipment, etc, is not a way to prepare?
What city do you live in that upgrades their water system with their firefighting budget?
Does your city use the road maintenance budget to remodel town hall? The school budget to repair street sweepers?

Depends on where I live and how it would affect me. In the south? Maybe buy some good all-season tires, live far inland and get a wood burning stove.
In the north? Not much. Already prepared for all types of weather.
